With the grief I get over the fish thing with the in-laws I think they'd implode if we went vegetarian!
Gawd - my pelvis is awful - it's grinding now which feels like nails on a chalkboard... in my crotch!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Turtle, poor you! A fall like that would have really shaken me up.
Bellola, Theo is 14 weeks now and I’ve had the same problem with getting him to take his naps in the day. At night, he’s brilliant, I can put him down tired but awake and leave the room and he’ll drop off by himself but in the daytime it’s a different story - he fights sleep, even though he’s clearly tired. I was doing the patting/rocking and it’s hard going and really wears you out. Do you use a dummy? I know not everyone likes them but I find it really useful for helping to get him off to sleep. Also lately when I know he’s tired I’ve been leaving him on his playmat instead of picking him up and giving him his dummy (keep having to put it back in when he spits it out) and after a while he’ll wear himself out and start dropping off there at which point I can transfer him to his cot. It’s a bit less wearing than rocking him and having him struggle and fight against me.
Dizzi, thanks for the link, I’ve just ordered that pillow.
Put Theo to bed early tonight as he was really tired. He had his last bottle of the day at 5.30pm so I'm expecting an early start again tomorrow. He doesn't wake for night feeds anymore but whenever he does wake, that is him up for the day. It was around 7am ish but seems to have been gradually getting earlier and earlier - was 5.45 today. Then he's ready for bed earlier in the evening and so on and so forth. I'm not quite sure how to get him to go the other way again!0 -

Morning all
Hope everyone is well and had a good night - ours was a bit messy, with LO being really unsettled from around midnight onwards. Been up since 6... Tired!
I'm making butternut squash risotto for our lunch, LO is sat in her chair in the middle of the kitchen floor, talking away to the washing machine. She loves watching the clothes go round and round!
Really cold this morning, but nice and sunny
Have a good day all x
PS: Sunshine, hope you found a dress!0 -
Nutella - thus far dd is veggie. We had a debate about it at home but both me and DH are veggie and have been for well over 29 years so it's much simpler for her to be eating what we eat, and we are pretty familiar with getting protein and other nutrients without using meat. On top of which I have no idea how to cook the stuff safely!
She's going to nursery in January and we have said no meat there either. Part of this is because they won't feed her anything we can't confirm she has had safely at home, but largely because we feel that if she is going to eat meat we want it to be the best quality organic stuff rather than mass produced and it won't be that at nursery.
I was a bit dissapointed with the fact that all their veggie meals are quorn, but as it's only 3 meals a week I figure we can give her a rather more varied diet at home.
I guess the only ones who can make the choice at this stage are you and your OH. When we decided we figured that either decision she would be annoyed with at some point when she grows up!
Thanks so much for your reply and for sharing your experience
My LO is also starting nursery 3 days a week in January... I think what we will probably do is stick to a veggie diet at home (at least when I cook for her, which is most of the time), but let her have meat and fish at nursery. I'll let them know that she hasn't had any before so they can introduce her to one thing at a time slowly and watch out for any adverse reactions to it - thanks for flagging this. You're right that she'll probably be annoyed with our decision (any decision!) at some point though - probably when she's about 13...
The other thing that comes into the equation for us is that OH is from West Africa and their food is meat, meat, meat - and a bit of fish. Food is such a big part of culture and identity, so it would be nice for LO to experience their cooking too - I always struggle with food whenever we visit his family and can never eat what everyone else is having....
Decision made I think0 -

Same thing happening here - she wakes up between 5.30 and 6 now that she doesn't have milk during the night. I'm trying to tell myself that it's good to get used to getting up early - when I go back to work at the end of Jan, I will have to get up at 5.30 anyway...0 -
Morning everyone,
My little boy is nearly 1. Last week or so been suffering quite bad from dry skin.
He does have a bath every night.
Would you just go to 1-2 a week and hopefully let it clear up, or would it be something i need to see the GP with?
He has special formula (and takes few other medicines) so not your average baby.
any advice would be very helpful.0 -

The standard first approach for dry skin is to use an aqueous cream, e.g. E45. Are you already doing this?
I might try to reduce the number of baths, but it would need weighing up against how much he enjoys them and how much they're part of his night time routine.
My 5 month old only gets about one bath a week. I tell myself it's because of his dry skin but really it's because I'm incredibly lazy"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
They usually go (in order of cheapness to the NHS) aqueous > E45 > diprobase... be careful with the first two as you can get sensitivity to something in the cream - my brother did and I remember he'd scream when we put it on him... ended up on diprobase (he gets the huge pump action tubs) and that's done him good for years. Also catching a freshly creamed up toddler trying to make a run for it makes for one very very interesting (and not amusing at 7am) sport.
You can get emollient to put in the baths - either Oilatum or Balneium (and I probably haven't spelt that right) which can add some moisture back into the skin - but be careful cos it's a blighter to scrub OFF your bath and doesn't half make it slippery!
My brother had a chronic case of childhood eczema the worst his consultant had ever seen in his entire career so I kind of grew up having to help deal with it.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I don't think we have excema here just reallllly dry skin. We have been using Oilatum Jnr Bath Additive since around 8 weeks now and we find it really effective. We bath every night here, as he loves them (he's in for a good 20 minutes) and they are part of his bed time wind down. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0
