Tax credits, child maintenance question..

Hi.

Decided today to now play hard ball with the ex after letting her have our son for christmas (i care for him full time) but not getting the other two children who do not live with me to give me a call today thanking both myself and my parents for the presents we gave them. (Sounds petty i know), but you would think she would have made the effort to get them to make a 2 minute call. (I would have).

So up until now i have been letting her pay me maintenance for our child without involving the CSA. This has worked out OK for her as she is paying less then she should.(About £10 a week less) going by just her salary. Now though it's time for me to stop taking crap and letting myself get walked over.

What i would like to know is what do the CSA take into account when doing the assessment?. I know her wages are done, she has an on-line tarot, reading type site which she runs and i am guessing makes money from that, she also gets tax credits for 2 other children, would that be included too..?

why do the children have to phone you? surely as the adult you should be phoning the children?

also if she has two of the children and you only have one, why is she paying you maintenance and not the other way around?

I am sorry was that an answer to my question...?

I don't know how it works in your household, but when the kids are in mine at christmas time, i always get them to call and thank whomever has given them a present. I don't expect the person giving to have to phone up for thanks....

Are the other children also yours? If so, then I would have thought that she could counter-claim child support from you for them.

Presuming not, then TBH I would leave things as they are. The CSA take forever to get money to you and whilst you have a reasonably amicable relationship I wouldn't disturb it for the sake of £10 a week.

In terms of calculation, the CSA will require the non-resident parent to pay 15% of their net income as child support. This will be reduced for the 2 children that are living with her. Her tarot reading income is likely to be self-employed income, other parents have found that NRPs are good at showing this income as almost zero in order to keep child support to a minimum.

    Thankyou for your answers.

I know the earnings with the tarot buisness can be traced as they only accept payment through paypal.... I know it's only £10 a week, but with the tarot buisness it may be more as i don't know the income from that. I do know they will be adding an on-line shop in the near future as their is a notice on the site and also the figure i am using from her wages are from approx 2 years ago when we split, so it may well be more.

in my household it works that the adults ring to say merry christmas, if the children happen to thank them for their presents at the same time all the better, but i would never ask a child to phone me, i would always phone them. i am the adult after all.

why should they phone you at all then? perhaps they are sending you a letter in the post as other children do.

I phoned my child and spoke to him thanks.. The other two got presents from my parents aswell as me, not to mention she said she would get them to call which she never did...

Your household must be different from mine then. I always get them to call whomever, when they get presents, or cards etc for christmas birthdays and say thankyou.

mine write letters, because it's more personal. if an adult is that needy they need gratification on that day of receipt, imo that's their problem, not the childs.
