HI, I would like some information on what I should do next. I had a bank account with Ulster Bank, and a MasterCard credit card with Ulster bank. I had a £250 overdraft limit with the bank. Unfortunately I lost my job, went £3 past my overdraft and incurred almost £200 worth of service charges onto my bank account. Also I was unable to keep up paymens on the credit card, although I had paid minimum amount for a number of months out of my benefits. Once I could no longer keep up minimum payments on the credit card, I requested a claim form from the insurance policy, which took approx 5 months to arrive. Once the form arrived, I was contacted by Ulster Bank credit cards and was told my policy no longer covered my account (which was obviously a lie as I recieved a statement from my CPP approx 3 months afterwards stating "your policy is almost up" and asking me to reinstate the policy.
As I was unable to repay the debts to Ulster Bank bacnk account and keep up payments on the crcedit card, both accounts were closed and the amounts were passed to debt collection agencies. Basically I need some advice on wether or not I should repay the agencies as I now have a job, or should I inform them of the fact that I am attempting to reclaim the funds from both Ulster Bank and Ulster Bank Credit Cards ?
Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks Keith.0 -
Start your claim with the bank and its quite likely that the DCA will be told and any monies reclaimed will be paid towards the debt, which will of course decrease any monies you owe them.0

Hi all,
We are claiming charges from an account that was closed by the bank last year. They closed the account, which had an overdraft at the time and then because we couldnt pay this overdraft back to them in full, they passed the debt onto a collection company. Now the claim is going through they have made an offer but on the condition that any money paid back in charges would go to the collection company rather than to us.Can they determine this even though they no longer have the debt themselves?? ThxBe ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
I have recently been offered £4,100 from Natwest but my account is with a debt collection agency and has risen to £2,900 overdrawn over the year I have been in dispute with the bank. The bank says it cannot give me a cheque and can only pay it into my account (which I thought was closed!). I have been in touch with the debt collection agency and they say they will wipe the £2,900 debt out with a one off payment of £1,460 and then when the £4,100 is paid in I can take it out ! is this correct? what shall I DO?0

Hi, I had an overdraft of £1,750 with Natwest around 5 years ago, which I had used up to the limit, after not using the account for a while they closed the account and demanded all the money back.
I have tried to contact them on many occasions with regards to paying off the overdraft but keep getting told that it has been passed on to another agency and is not in their hands.
Over the years I had the account, i was charged £1,070 in charges, so following this sites I tried to reclaim them and today, have recieved an offer for the full £1,070.
The thing is they are saying that they will pay it direct into my former account. I rang them to say I have no account with them, they informed that as I have a debt outstanding, they will make the payment towards that, even though when I phoned their credit department, I got told again that the debt has been passed on to an agency and should wait to hear from them, ( ahve had the same response for the last six months).
My questions is should I accept the offer and have them pay it into my account to pay off some of my debt ?
or
Can I ask them to pay me by cheque ?
Sorry for the long post but any advice would be most appreciated.
Regards

If there is an outstanding debt with the bank or credit card company involved, which is not covered by a separate contract, they can and probably will offset any charges reclaimed against that debt. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

Think it depends how much claim is for but by the look of other threads on here they will take back any money you owe them befor they give you any back :eek:0

I had a similar question to that...I had accounts with banks that were shut down because of all the charges they kept imposing. Eventually paid it off with a debt collection agency. Will I be able to reclaim?0

You can claim on old accounts.
