Yep, Citibank are no longer on Quidco.
Still waiting for my £49, anyway :rolleyes:0 -
Hi there (this is only my second post - if you saw my first you'll know why I'm on the prowl here).
I really need to change my account after the disaster of the Woolwich/Barclays fiasco.
Need a debit card I can use online (for train/coach/flight bookings etc).
Not interested in an overdraft.
I have an embarrassing credit rating after defaulting on overdraft/cards as a angst-ridden, easily led student five years ago. (therefore would rather keep a low profile too!)
But I have a guaranteed income of £1,000 going in per month.
Is Citibank for me? If so, which account do I apply for (and the best way to do it)?
Many thanks in advance!
If you have no luck with Citibank, then another account worth a look is Lloyds TSB's Cash Account. Although it's a basic account it now comes with a 2-in-1 debit card. Only thing is you can only withdraw money at Lloyds TSB cash machines, but 'tis a step up from the cash point card they used to offer.

Before I apply to Citibank I just wanted to double check that the Citibank Card is equivalent to a normal Visa Debit card, i.e. like my multifunction card from Abbey? Also, if I opt for an account with Electron or Solo instead, what are these the equivalent of? Can you use them the same as a Visa debit or are there lots of places that won't accept them? I seem to remember a neighbour saying she had Electron but had trouble with some places accepting them.0

If you go for Citi's Access account then you'll get a 2-in-1 Visa Debit card which you can use to pay for goods and use at cash machine.
Whereas, with Citi's Plus account you should get a 3-in-1 Visa Debit card ie: it also has a cheque guarantee function as well.
Think I read on here somewhere that some banks are now switching to issuing 2-in-1 debit cards (rather than 3-in-1) as cheques aren't used much these days.homeworkgirl wrote: »Also, if I opt for an account with Electron or Solo instead, what are these the equivalent of? Electron/Solo are not as widely accepted as Visa, which can be a pain in the behind.
Another diff. between them and Visa Debit is that with Electron/Solo each transaction requires funds to be checked, so they say there is no chance of accounts going overdrawn.0 -
Hi all,
I am sorry you are having problems with your cards. I am an A&L customer who too have issued 2 in 1 Visa Debit cards and we have exactly the same problems, it is when online authorisation cannot be sought (petrol pumps, train ticket machine etc), it just declines, I get it all the time!!0 -

 Thanks for the suggestion of Halifax - I've just submitted my online application. Thing is though the idea of credit checks scares the hell outta me 'cos I'm worried they might pass my current details onto bailiffs.
Not that I've got !!!!!! all to my name apart from a few Adam Ant records and Doctor Who DVDs.
Oh and I doubt I'm on the electoral register as my dodgy landlord deals with all that stuff (I've got a studio flat in a very big/busy house). I'm guessing that will affect things?

Thanks Mouse - will try LTSB if I don't get a nice letter from Halifax in regards to their Basic....0

I think it is your responsibility to ensure you are registered on the electoral register. Phone your local council and ask to speak to the electoral returns department who will confirm.
IMHO you will never get any credit without being on the register.
