Why do citibank put restrictions on your purchases...
today I rang them and told them I would be making a purchase of £502.49 so they said ok then I did the purchase with comet for a new usa fridge/freezer but it wouldn't go through so I rang citi and they said tell them to try again which they did it still wouldn't go through so I rang citi again and they said they had it on hold which is what keeps coming up on the comet system that the money is on hold...so no fridge/freezer for me then I rang citibank back and they said it had gone through but it hasn't according to comet... so the money is not in my bank now so Where the blood hell is it...comet said it'll be there somewhere and will probably drop off after a couple of hours then try ordering again tomorrow the problem I have is I am using a code 10% off which expires on friday the 16th so I am going round and around in circles with this now...also got £17.59 cashback with quidco and £55 knocked off the price of the fidge/freezer with free delivery so am I just supposed to wait and see what happens am I going to get my money back where the hell is it in a holding account or with comet or lost inside citibank it's £502.49 so who has got my money cos its not in my account....I now HATE citibank....for doing this...

    That is shocking

I would email Citibank and also send a letter to them to get it sorted out.

I have to say they deal with complaints very well

    Keep us updated

so fed up with citibank now
they said tell comet to make a manual authorisation for the money and they will release the money but comet don't do that as it'll cost me for them to do it..so citibank have said I have to wait until midnight thursday for the money to go back into the account now....this is total twaddle...If I want to make anymore purchases I'll transfer the money to another account instead now and wont use citibank for any other purchases over £300 in future...they have really got my back up over this...
I have done 2 internal messages for the complaint I am done with them now time to get a different bank
I have halifax but it's only a visa electron easycash account...
so fed up with them for this...

This is one of the reasons I left Citibank and moved to Halifax. Although their anti-fraud mechanisms are laudable things often go wrong even if you inform them prior to a large purchase or in event of going abroad.

thanks and snap I have just applied to halifax myself I already have an easy cash account with them but wanted something better like a current account with a visa debit card so far they have given me (online) my sort code my account number and my roll number account reads as 0.00 deposite at moment I didn't go for the switch direct debits thing but will if everything goes ok they said I should here back within 7 days whether I have actually got the account or not but since they have issued me with these few details already and when I go online the account is there but says awaiting decision do you think I have actually got the account or not...just wondered since they have given me all the details of the account then it'll be bye bye citibank and good riddens...I suppose if they just let me at my money when I want it things wouldn't have gone this far but as things stand I want to get as far away from them as possible now...it's my money I feel like I'm in that advert where they take the tip and keep you in the keep net...:rotfl:anyway not long and I can go...

Halifax are curious in that they often give you the account details before you have been formally accepted. They could still knock you back. I applied over the telephone with Halifax to make sure I could be automatically accepted.

    Grr i hate Citibank!
They stopped my card citing security reasons and sent me a new one. Trying to register it today was a very painful experience! and has now resulted in them suspending access to online banking.

Unfortunately i think i am stuck with them as it would be unlikely i would pass a credit check elsewhere ( already have cashminder co-op account)

And thats my rant for today :D
