My local Hermes person is awful too. He once opened the passenger window of his van a threw a catalogue down the path:eek:.

He also just opens my door and throws the parcel in rather than knocking on the door.

If I am out, the parcel is left in my bin - dread to think what bacteria could be in there.

I must say I am disappointed that Amazon are using them now so I think I'll be spliting my orders up rather than making one big order in the future. Hopefully that will mean it goes out my Royal Mail who are really good in my area.

I had a delivery today from Hermes whilst i was at work. No problems, the courier left a note for me to say where they'd left it, it was in a secure place. I was so grateful as it's a xmas present and i was worried about them taking it back and me struggling to find time to pick it up.
  • I had one today - lady that came was very polite - arrived on time, in perfect condition.

Generally you will find on forums people only talk about the bad. If 1% of the service is poor it still makes the overall service excellent.

No problems with Hermes here. Polite and professional. Have delivered to me on a Sunday - I mentioned that I was surprised and was told they were very busy and trying to keep on top of things.

My dad works for Hermes and Ive been out with him on numerous occasions. IMO hermes parcel tracker and customer service on the ends of the telephone is carp however my dad is always praised. He gets his parcels out everyday without fail, he delivers to all the tiny remote villages around us come sun, wind or 2 feet of snow!! He's always on time with his parcels and if for any reason at all (such as me being rushed into hospital) he is going to be late he will give the customer a courtesy call to inform them.

Yes there are going to be a lot of carp delivery drivers, tbh from what I gather there isn't much an of interview process, but you are going to get the good ones aswell. Its just unfortunate if they fall in your area. If your delivery drivers are bad then compain about them. They always deal with customer feedback be it praise or otherwise.
  • I have had three separate experiences with Hermes in the past fortnight, with varying levels of dissatisfaction. All three involved packages ordered from Amazon on the Free SuperSaver Delivery option.

The first package was left in my garden, with an unintelligible note pushed through my door (consulting several people to try to work out what had been scribbled, the consensus was 'mc9 something'). I contacted Amazon after a couple of days, who advised me it had been left in my garden. In November. Thankfully, my garden is fenced off, so there was little risk of the package being pinched, but there is no access to my garden except through my house, so the parcel had to have been dropped in there over the six foot fence. This item cost me £20.

The second package was left behind my bin. I live on the main thoroughfare to the local primary school, so have a large number of people pass by my front door on a daily basis. Thankfully, my partner returned in time to catch the driver leaving the parcel, so it was retrieved before it could disappear. This item cost me £80.

The final package was a present bought for me by my partner for Christmas, a DAB/iPod/CD system that cost £100. This again was dumped over my fence and into my garden. At least the note was legible this time, so I could rescue it from the elements. However, this again had to be dropped at least 6 foot onto the ground, and given what it is, is highly likely to have sustained some kind of damage. My partner is returning the item and asking for a replacement; even if it works now, there is a chance that something has been dislodged or weakened and it won't work as well as it should, for as long as it should.

I wondered if it was an issue with the local courier, but it seems it may be the culture of the company. I am very fond of Amazon and have used them a lot over the last few years. However, their use of Hermes has made me question how fond of them I really am. Go back to RM, please, Amazon!!

GriffZilla, if you leave a note somewhere on your garden fence or front door or wherever expressing for nothing to be left in your garden they HAVE to adhere to that. On the card that is left there should be a fone number somewhere to your local driver, give him/her a call and just let them know you don't want it happening again and that if it does you will complain. By all means complain if you wish to anyway.

Hermes drivers are told to leave them secure if possible so I guess it is secure but very stupid to drop it from so high.

So, you had a parcel delivered to a secure location, another that was hidden and another that was also delivered to a secure location, but you are returning it in case it is broken, even though you have no idea whether it its or not?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

I've just had a strange man knock on my door and ask me if I ordered anything! A bit confusing as I do all of my shopping online but it turns out that Hermes had dumped my parcel from Evans in this man's garden, behind a garden chair. He lives several streets away!

It was really kind of him to deliver it to me - plenty of people wouldn't have bothered but I'm not terribly amused and will be complaining to Evans in the morning.
  • Flyboy, your idea and mine of 'secure' and 'hidden' are clearly many moons apart. I don't consider my garden to be particularly secure- I wouldn't leave anything easily removed and of any significant value out in the open for any chancer to happen across, despite the fact there is no access, and I certainly don't expect someone entrusted to deliver me an item I have paid for, regardless of value, to do so on my behalf. As far as an item being hidden- popping something behind a wheelie bin on the main access road to a school of 350 pupils, is hardly hiding the item. The driver was contracted to deliver the item to MY ADDRESS, not somewhere in the general vicinity and hope for the best.

Finally, I'm not an electrical expert, but I do know that stereo systems contain small, fragile and somewhat temperamental components. I wouldn't choose to deliberately drop this from my head height onto the floor, and frankly, if I did do so, I wouldn't expect it to work properly afterwards. Therefore, why should I, or my partner, accept someone else doing so with our equipment? It is a basic common courtesy, I would have thought, that if you are employed to deliver packages, you do all you can to ensure the goods arrive in optimum condition. If you don't, I'd suggest you're in the wrong job...
