Hermes Couriers

That depends on what it is I'm purchasing. Something that's low cost, no, something valuable, I'm happy to pay more for postage.
Remember the recipients have no idea when these items are going to turn up most of the time. So can't arrange to be home. I found out it was being delivered half an hour after I found out the delivery attempt had been made, albeit after it had been delivered to someone else. So in reality, if we've no way of knowing when it's coming, how can you expect someone to be home for it.
Hermes, IMO need better communication, and an option to be able to pick packages up. Us mere consumers don't know it's hermes delivering until the items turn up, with most other couriers there are options.
But, I also think the companies we're buying from should also inform us who's delivering. We don't know until we get our orders unless we go from previous experience.
Just had a courtesy call from my catalogue as I haven't ordered from them for a while. They have now put a note on my account not to use Hermes for any of my deliveries. So along with a nice £30 discount, I will now have a nice package arriving on Monday or Tuesday with none of the hassles of Hermes. :T4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
They delivered a parcel for me this week. I was in the kitchen and one of my dogs was asleep in the hall. He never rang the bell or knocked on the door. He just opened the front door and threw the parcel in! The poor dog got such a fright
Courier was away quickly so I never got to say anything to him.
No signature was needed so its the fault of who ever sent it :P0 -

It may well be the same courier though as many do the same rounds for different companies!!!!0 -

In which case it's not Hermes that need to step it up a gear -- it's the retailers your buying from, who should make it clearer what courier they use.
Most other couriers offer faster services yes, but in general most couriers simply state anytime within 3 working days so they operate no differently to Hermes other than the fact Hermes cost less and take 5 working days.
Most retailers will also give you the option of how goods are sent, if you choose the cheapest retailer or the cheapest service then you expect this.0 -

How much more are you prepared to pay for that level of service? But, I also think the companies we're buying from should also inform us who's delivering. We don't know until we get our orders unless we go from previous experience.
Why? It's none of your business.Just had a courtesy call from my catalogue as I haven't ordered from them for a while. HaHa! Best of luck with that.
So, you won't have Yodel and you won''t have Hermes; you are are fast running out of options. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Arcon - Totally agree that the companies need to step it up a gear. It's few and far between the retailers who state which courier they use. As it is at the moment, I can only go by past experience, like ordering from Amazon, it's hit and miss who they will use to dispatch, sometimes RM, sometimes... can't remember which courier.
Flyboy, I am already paying for a service, for the item to be delivered to me, not to my dustbin. And I'm afraid it is my business when couriers are signing for my goods as delivered when clearly they are not. And thank you for the good luck, but I don't think I'll need it, had very few problems with RM in this area :T Catalogue have noted on account not to use Hermes for my deliveries, so I applaud their Customer Services Dept. They just need to look at the account to see the problems I've had with them. But even if the courier had threw my package in the street and dipped them into dog sht on the way I still feel that you would defend them to the hilt.
We can only go on our own experience of these things. I will now (where possible) only order from companies who don't use Hermes (these were the worse culprits for me). When it comes to things I purchase from Amazon, I will need to go with the flow. But I'm afraid until they get a decent driver on in this area then I won't be helping to pay for their abysmal wages.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

It is not up to you to dictate which compnay your supplier uses to deliver the goods; it is theirs.
What you pay for is not what you want, if you want a higher level of service, you will have to pay more for it. All the things you want costs money; so, how much more would you be prepared to pay?The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I've already stated I'd be happy to pay more Flyboy, even though I am already paying for it to be delivered to MY door. What part of that don't you understand?
Gazza I apologise for not answering you. Yes it very well could be, although it's a company that seems to use RM and Hermes. Or it has been in the past. Here's hoping anyhoo4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

But how much more would you be prepared to pay? Three pounds, four, five, ten; how much more? What part of that did you not understand? :wall:The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Why do you think it is none of the customers business who a retailer uses to deliver to them? (Incidentally, the poster did not at any point suggest they would 'dictate' who a retailer used, they said customers should know who their order will be delivered by, so they can decide if they wish to use that retailer).
By law your contract is with the retailer, but a substantial part of the fulfillment of the contract is by the courier.
Take an analogy - you're going into hospital for an operation. You're booked into the local hospital. They have 4 surgeons, one of whom has a substantially lower success rate at the operation than the others. Would you like to know who will be performing your operation so you can go to another hospital if need be, or would you like the hospital to say it's none of your business?0
