Why do you think it is none of the customers business who a retailer uses to deliver to them? (Incidentally, the poster did not at any point suggest they would 'dictate' who a retailer used, they said customers should know who their order will be delivered by, so they can decide if they wish to use that retailer).
By law your contract is with the retailer, but a substantial part of the fulfillment of the contract is by the courier.
Take an analogy - you're going into hospital for an operation. You're booked into the local hospital. They have 4 surgeons, one of whom has a substantially lower success rate at the operation than the others. Would you like to know who will be performing your operation so you can go to another hospital if need be, or would you like the hospital to say it's none of your business?

You should know who the company uses as the courier, they tend to hide the fact(because it's cheap for them)oinks in more business, or they make the delivery T&C's obscure, it would be much better for the courier if companies clearly stated, cheap supersaver delivery anytime between 8am-6pm, upgrade for xx time at an extra cost.

I'm sure some customers would choose to pay more and avoid certain companies, I'm also sure some others would choose the cheap and moan about not getting a 5* service and try to push to get that service for free.

If supersaver or free delivery is chosen, you are likely to get underpaid workers and some won't have the same interest in their job.

Interesting analogy, you get what you pay for

I don't know where you live ThumbRemote but what chance would you have with

    1) getting the info about 4 surgeons(except word of mouth)not always reliable and then choosing your surgeon based on their success rate.
    2) changing hospitals to find the best of the four

Best of luck if that's possible in your area, it's not possible in my area

I think it's unlikely anywhere and you'd need to upgrade to a private hospital.

Which ninety-nine per cent of people would not be prepared to pay the extra for.

Sorry, but that is exactly what Mazza111 was telling their catalogue company to do.

  • I'd just like to say Hermes have also let me down. Order placed on the 11th with "tvbracketsworld.co.uk" on a 2 -5 day delivery as I didn't get offered the chance of next day, even though they claim to offer it on their site.

    Here's Hermes tracking info:

    Date Time Status
    20/12/2011 09:33 Courier Received
    20/12/2011 05:49 Out For Delivery
    19/12/2011 12:05 Courier to Re-attempt
    15/12/2011 11:21 Delivered to Porch
    15/12/2011 09:42 Courier Received
    15/12/2011 01:08 Receipt at Depot
14/12/2011 13:01 Hub Sorter Receipt Scan
    13/12/2011 06:08 Order Generated

If we had a porch that would have been somthing, but we don't.

I've called tvbracketsworld a number of times, each time they say it will be with me today, but it never has. They have now told me they will reship the order (not with Hermes) and recall the other shipment. I'll beleive that when it gets here.

It's a total waste of time trying to talk to Hermes direct, they just tell me to talk to the company I ordered the goods with. I was also informed they don't have a customer services department and any complants would have to be made in writing to their head office.

Capitol House, 1 Capitol Close, Morley, Leeds, LS27 0WH.

I will have had to wait in for 3 extra days, that's providing it is delivered tomorrow (21st).

    No, they didn't.

They have told the retailer they won't order from them if they use Hermes. The retailer has put a note on their account to say don't ship with Hermes to this one customer. The retailer has a choice, and chose to keep a customer over using Hermes in this instance.

This is not 'dictating' which courier a retailer uses. It is stating that the retailer will lose their business if they use Hermes, and letting the retailer make a business decision.

I don't see why you can't understand what the poster was writing and what you have written, confirmimg that.

Telling their supplier that they will not purchase from them if they use Hermes, is dictating to the supplier that they must not use Hermes for the poster's deliveries. :wall:

TVbracketworld have now reshipped my order, so far I've had 2 mails from the delivery company (DPD) and arrival time is 13.45 to 14.45 today (21st). If TVbracketworld stop using Hermes then I buy from them again, but if not I'll be giving them a miss.

Are they all liars or is it just in my area?

I arranged a returns collection for "guaranteed" collection yesterday and guess what? Yes, nobody called. I e-mailed them and got a reply this afternoon apologising for not collecting yesterday and saying they had "re-attempted" (how can they "re-attempt" when the original "attempt" was never made, but that's beside the point) collection this morning (Sunday). Nobody has been!

Now, checking on their T&Cs, it seems that there is no contract until the commencement of the "service", which is the collection, so I cannot even cancel (& get a refund) & make alternative arrangements as there is no contract yet to cancel. Surely that must be an "unfair term"?

I no longer shop with any company that uses Hermes. My courier is awful, I even know his first name I've had to complain so many times but they really don't care. they make contacting them so difficult. best way is to contact the company that sent the item to contact them . that usually works. good luck !
Thank you to all the money savers:beer: for all the wisdom, companionship, bargains, competitions and ideas:T you have made a transformation to our household, Thank you, it would have been so much harder without you and together we are amazing :A:smileyhea
