I really understand how customers feel when an arrangement is broken, it's very inconvenient but Hermes have let the couriers down and good couriers with years of experience have found it difficult to cope(no idea how newer couriers have managed).

Hermes have taken on so many contracts(I'll say it first, not the customers problems)but with no company plan to cope with the volumes.

My volumes increased to an impossible level and I was left to cope(Hermes are under the self employed umbrella), it means your employed by the company (dictacting) but alone if things get tough,
collections had to take second place.

I thought they would have at least taken the pressure of by being the office and dealt with customer problems and explained it was not a courier problem but a greedy(they could use their own definition) company problem.

I've had a few people recently like you whitelabel not many thank goodness, but glad your getting a voucher, so sorry you have to go to the post office yourself, free post though that's good news.

I will say a few people on my round have also been told to send the courier away in this off hand way they don't and are shocked by the companies suggestion.
I've also heard from other couriers it has happened to them, they still take deliveries to those customers but they don't do any extras for them, strictly 8am -6pm. I totally agree with that approach.

Couriers do have to hold things back, under time pressure I have customers who need guidance with returning their items, takes time but that's ok, traffic problems thats ok, customers not in that's okish if they're in the next day or let me know.

I was delivering a parcel to a "lady" who works at my city council office yesterday, while I was waiting at the reception desk for her to come down to sign, she poked me twice in the back saying you should have been here yesterday, it took a lot not to turn around and poke her in the eye. Hermes told her I had her parcel and hadn't delivered.

I can guarantee you that if you had poked her in the back, she would have had you for assault.

And have Hermes deliver for them.

No Hermes never did deliver, the company recalled the delivery and sent it out on a next day with DPD and it arrived at 13.33 :-)

Not saying people don't have problems. But to add just had a delivery from WH smith via hermes. Ordered it two days ago.

I did find that very funny, couriers need their sense of humour.

I've often had customers who are at home, buzzers work, greet me with a smile and a thank you. didn't ask for stupid o'clock deliveries and didn't blame me when they thought they could go for free supersaver delivery, then get a prime costly service for free with a threat and a moan.

Oh well, we can both dream EycplUK!

You would be right, I wouldn't lower my self to poke her back but she will have all further deliveries strictly to T&C's and if that inconveniences her in the future, that is a shame.

Couriers really should be able to kick up a fuss, when assaulted or abused(it happens often)but because they're self employed they are in no mans land, work will be withdrawn if you cause the company problems(they only care about profits)not about the courier's well being.

I'm certainly not letting a bad mannered person affect my potential earnings, only just seeing a decent wage after years of being a self employed courier.

Unfortunately couriers could help themselves by joining a union but many don't, I don't know why a small cost roughly £6 per month.

But how much more would you be prepared to pay? Three pounds, four, five, ten; how much more? What part of that did you not understand? :wall:

Well that would be between me and the retailer.
Sorry, but that is exactly what Mazza111 was telling their catalogue company to do.
Telling their supplier that they will not purchase from them if they use Hermes, is dictating to the supplier that they must not use Hermes for the poster's deliveries.

I didn't tell my catalogue to do anything. They called me up with some special offers. I told them to close my account. I wouldn't be ordering from them again. Of course they asked why. I explained about the problem with the courier and the bin incidents (yodel and hermes). They checked my account and seen that a £70 dress had to be replaced, and an order for several bikinis that was over £100. So, they seen on my account that they have had to replace almost £200 worth of goods because of the couriers. My catalogue chose to keep me as a customer, they had the option of closing my account or doing something to keep me. They chose the latter. Which, in all fairness, is good customer service. I did not dictate which service they used.

Did you say anything to her Sadie? I would have politely but firmly told her off. In all my years as a postie, I only got verbal with one customer, who had accused me of posting a red card without taking the parcel(parcel had been attempted by a driver earlier in the day) , explained the card to him, he still blocked my way out of the block of flats and was very threatening. Rather scary in such an enclosed space. Went through all the usual customer service things and he still towered over me blocking my path. I won't repeat what I said to him, but it gave him the shock to look at his behaviour, then reported the incident to my manager, who then reported it to the police. It actually worked out great for me, got taken off that duty which I was glad of, as it had 23 blocks of flats on it :T

Not about poking mazza111, I wouldn't have any impact on what they feel is normal. I counted to 10 and explained the way some courier delivery companies work.

We can have a threatening customer removed but the courier has to push it, even when reported no one automatically removes them and definitely wouldn't report it to the police(bad publicity)we are sort of self employed.
I know RM is changing but I hope they still put the delivery peoples safety and well being first and not the hard to please customer as most other courier companies do.

Yeah with certain managers in RM we had to push it too Sadie. My manager thought it was in "my" best interests to be removed from that duty :rotfl: I didn't lie to him, I told him exactly what I said to the customer, which involved parts of his anatomy being rearranged, as it turned out, it was enough to give the guy the shock he needed and didn't bother any postie since then. Helped me out to as it was the start of my knee trouble so doing 23 blocks of flats at the start of my duty wasn't ideal
