  • Well, according to Next, they spoke to the delivery driver personally just 30 mins before he was due at my house at 17:30.

Anyhow, Next phoned me last night, apologised yet again and are now trying to work out where my stuff is so that they can get a different delivery firm to bring it to me.

Quick question, who in their right mind would throw a box covered in fragile tape over a seven foot high wall and leave it in the pouring rain?
    Answer; A Hermes Courier

Or a Courier with a terrible customer miss_independent.

Unfortunately new Hermes couriers with little training, seem to do this. I'm sure they think short term, have to deliver to have any payment probably most can't afford to go back and forth(who can nowadays)time is money and fuel is expensive.

I read these posts with interest and even after nearly 11 years as a courier I'm still intrigued by some new customers who don't contact after cards are left or they let me know they work so after 5-6pm is good for them.

All the silly, inconsiderate customer's parcels are returned, I suspect some would prefer I left in an unsafe place, no idea why they don't order to work, friend or family or pay for a service that suits their lifestyle.

Unfortunately most delivery companies don't recognise FRAGILE unless you pay extra, fact from most companies.

Interesting that Next can promise a customer a timing they don't pay for, it's before or after 1pm(so 5 to or 5 past 1pm does it). They try to bully couriers to give an unpaid for service, guess they get lucky sometimes.

I'd be interested to know if you do receive your order by another company(keep us updated)and how your future deliveries arrive.

I know I've insisted some customers are removed(I refuse to deliver to them) and it works once and then they come back to me over and over again, I don't deliver so guess they may be in the sale before they're received by the customer.

Are you suggesting the person that is sending the parcel is the terrible customer or the person that is having the delivery ?

I placed an order the other day, after getting the email informing about dispatch, it said hermes, I called them straight up and canceled the order. I then reordered and told them to use RM, as I couldn't afford for my order to end up thrown over the fence, or left on door step, or even somewhere in the street. RM, in my area, I know will return to collection office if i am not in and I am fine with that.

Funny thing was it was cheaper than before.
Power is good, but then you get the bill....

You're conveniently ignoring the fact that if the courier had bothered to deliver/collect the parcels in the first place, there would be no need for Next to 'bully' them.
  • Well, guess what? The Hermes courier turned up yesterday afternoon (not planned). Luckily my wife was in (changed her work day).

The delivery chap claimed that Next had spoken to me and I'd said that someone was in!! Oh no I didn't!

Anyhow, he took away 1 damaged parcel and left me the 2 that I was expecting. Opened 1 up to discover item damaged again!! AggggHhh!!!

visadeath I refer to the customer who has ordered and expecting a delivery(I think you knew that though).

To break it down IMO a terrible customer is one who orders with no intention of being home, negotiates for a prime service at no extra cost i.e. evening or specific times, tries to bully the courier into complying.

A terrible courier is someone who leaves things in an unsecure place, I don't agree with this but understand how some new couriers get fed up with the terrible customer.

I think it's great you changed your service to suit your needs, it's not the Hermes courier fault that the company doesn't invest in a customer collection depot, I wish they would.

I wonder why though some of the delivery companies with a customer collect depot feel the need to leave in bins, doorsteps or post when a signature is required, it must be about percentages or something. Best of luck with your preferred service.

I never ignore any facts convenient or not.

I know how companies make mistakes, incorrect addresses, sending out items ordered for a specific day but sent out the day after, damaged parcels that need to be returned to be checked and re packaged, requesting courier phones the customer on their mobiles(not agreed in the self employed price)because their buzzer doesn't work, they work nearby and can whizz home, requesting a specific time because customer is flying off at 10.05 am, to name a few.

This still does not stop companies like Next trying to bully the courier, even though the problem is often not a courier related problem.

I guess the hard worked Next staff find it easier to blame the courier.

Hi Chameleon thanks for your thanks:)

I think this was what Flyboy152 was saying, Next can promise anything(maybe to get you off their phone)but it's very likely it's still coming via Hermes and they do tell couriers it's re-arranged with the customer for xx day and they will be in, I know from past experience it's not true.

Sorry you've had damaged parcels, I hope they sort it out for you.
