    Bottle them.

Dry apple slices in the oven and have apple crisps or thread them on string and hang them up at Christmas.

Crush them and turn them into juice, cider or calvados.

Sell them outside your gate? Have an honesty box.

I had this dilemma last year when we moved into our new house with an overflowing apple tree....

I gave lots away, chopped and froze bags and bags, and then discovered fruit leathers!
Someone was talking about this on here yesterday https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3450081

If you google fruit leather you'll find lots of ideas and different versions of the recipe - you don't need to need sugar, and I found I didn't need to bake them for as long as many recipes suggested. Perfect for using up left over fruit of all types or cheap finds in the supermarket (I did apple, apple & blackberry, apple and banana...). I also used many that were bruised from falling off the tree/had insect damage by just chopping around the bad bits...
  • i'v just stewed some this morning as well, mine were eating apples but i am going away so they have been cooked and frozen into 4 , i will use them in crumble, its nice to have something stored ready in the freezer (i'm not really a batch cooker)

I've just made a load of apple jelly. Last year we made apple wine - it's a little potent!

I wish we had your problem , my Kids get through at least one bag of apples per day. it would save me a small fortune!
When we moved here 3 years ago we bought an apple tree, but got a few more years to wait before we get any decent apples I think.

  • What would you suggest is the best use for rather wormy windfalls of eating apples that don't cook down to a pulp?

A lady in a road near to me has a sign outside offering a bag of bramleys for a quid which bearing in mind how expensive cooking apples are in the supermarket seems to me quite reasonable.I will buy some at the weekend when I have a bit more room in my freezer and stew them in honey and freeze in portions for the winter. They will go well with the blackberries I already have in the freezer come January when I am sick of mincemeat pies
