...and for the first time EVER in my locality - I actually spotted a box of apples outside someones home with a notice inviting people to help themselves for free the other day:D
YAY - as I thought "Maybe - at long last - this idea has come to my area:T" - so I duly took a handful (ie enough for an apple cake/crumble/etc) and raised a hand to say "Thank you" in the direction of the windows of the house concerned in case they were watching...:D
So - if all else fails....:)0 -
I will be making chutney's tomorrow with my cooking apples, possibly some mincemeat too.Debt Free Dec 2009non-smoker 19th Nov 2010Trying to lose weight 40lb/42lb

Hi Naomim,
As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to the main Apple thread on Old Style where you'll find lots more ideas.

Hi,
I have 2 apple trees in my garden: one sweet, one cooking. They all seem to be ripe now, but there are so many!
I was thinking I could peel and chop some and make a crumble base that I could freeze and take out as needed, but does anyone have any other ideas for how I can use them? A lot of them are bruised now from having fallen so I won't be able to store many of them as they are.
Sorry if there is already a thread about this somewhere but I didn't notice it.
Thanks!

I've made apple jam and apple jelly (like a jam, not like a pudding) already and have stweed loads to put in the freezer. I've also made an apple cake but now the inspiration has waned.0

I was given a carrier bag full. I just stewed them in the microwave, and froze in two person portions. Apple pie yesterday with a sheet of ready rolled I'd forgotton about! Or crumble, or just stewed apple. You could also make apple sauce for pork, or apple jam of course.I Believe in saving money!!!:T
