Hello,
I really like stewed apple with natural yoghurt as a snack. Simply peel, core and chop apples. Put into a saucepand with a cm of water and cook on a low-medium heat for about 30mins (very approximate). Taste and add sugar to taste.
I freeze it and it keeps very well. When I was a child I used to like eating it from frozen with a teaspoon (hard work!).

Lucky you!
We have 2 apple trees and lost 95% to rot this year.
Last year I froze pureed, cubed and apple slices to use as and when needed.
I also dried some apple slices for muesli, the rabbit (she loves them as a treat!) and baking breakfast bars.
My fave recipes with apples include apple charlotte, somerset pork (either pork chops or sausages), toffee apples, spiced baked apples and apple sponge.
How about making some apple chutney?
My DH is a chef and lived/worked in Guernsey for over 20 years and he keeps promising to make gache melee...am thinking he can get on it this weekend.
Here's a good selection of apple recipes - http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipes/tag-233/apple-recipes.aspx

I've just googled gache melee & THAT is what I will make!!! Thanks to you both for your advice.0

Make sure you pronounce it right when telling other people...'gosh mell-arr', rather than how I said it 'gatch melleeee' :rotfl:
If you want a total indulgent treat then eat it with guernsey cream...
Off to tell DH what he's doing later on today.....:DStone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.0 -

I have eating apples (Gala), but no cooking apples. I want to use them in a hot (baked) pudding tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any ideas?
I have made crumbles and pies inthe past with eating apples and they have turned out ok but not great. I wondered if anyone had any other suggestions?
Are there apple pudding recipes that actually stipulate an eating apple, rather than a cooker?0 -

I have made this using eating apples, it was lovely.0 -
Eve's pudding works with eating apples, though Minimad's suggestion has me very tempted.0

If they are fairly crunchy apples I'd just core them, fill them with raisins and a bit of syrup/honey and bake, then dollop with yoghurt/ice cream.
If I'm not mistaken, the main issue with normal apples is they don't retain their shape/texture as much after cooking so they'd probably be fine for a crumble.0
