    Just used energyhelpline site to switch to Scottish Power (discount not fixed) I thought about fixing but if they change their rates that gives me the right to change supplier without penalty (I believe) and get another sign up bonus with someone else. £80 cash back too to help. Ive taken a screen shot of the £80 cash back advert as someone says in another thread when you click on details it only says £30.

    What Im not sure about is if i will get the £30 from energyhelpline for the switch plus another £80. Doesnt matter either way but would be nice. :)

    MikeyC123 I think even discounted not fixed tariffs have minimum terms, and there is always a clause that lets them increase rates before this minimum term ends.

    If you leave before the minimum term you will be charged the penalties.

    That is completely incorrect. Following a price increase (a unilateral variation),you can switch to another Supplier, without penalty.

    The issue was clarified by Ofgem some months ago following customer based representations :D
  • Bump. What's everyone else doing?
  • Moved to edf fix for 2012 tariff.
    They immediately upped my DD of course -which i will now dispute.

    How is it completely incorrect? This is an honest question, I did say "I think" at the start of my reply as I am not certain, and if I am wrong I am happy to admit it.

    BUT, if you are on a variable tariff, not a fixed tariff, why can't they vary the price?

    I could understand if you were on a fixed tariff and they tried to put the price up you would be well within your rights to leave without penalty, but we are talking about variable tariffs and surely they are allowed to vary the tariff within reason?

    Using the comparison sites, for me the cheapest deal would be to move to 'Fix for 2012' tariff but I am seriously thinking of switching to Scottish Power 'Online Fixed Energy April 2013' as I would get an £80 cash back when the switch goes through.

    Even if I assume that EdF do not increase their prices at January 2013 applying this will show an overall saving, albeit quite small. This would increase significantly however if EdF did put their prices up as we use around 45% of our gas in the first three months of the year.

    With the added benefit that I move away from EdF's appalling customer service of course.

    I note that EoN and others have a company rep on this site. Has there ever been an EDF one? Possibly the worst job in the world, but it might help them long term.

    They have consistently refused. I have spoken to their Senior Customer Services Manager personally about it but he prefers to use Twitter. :rotfl:and a secret agent.
