  • Called EDF last week to advise them I am leaving and want my online saver 7 prices held while I switch.

He has held my prices for 2 months (end of feb) while I switch to another provider. He sent me this in writing too.

So I plan to switch to another provider after 31st December.

    Didn't know they did this.
I was wondering when to start the switch process as to avoid going on standard tariff for too long.

I'd be amazed if this is correct. EDF OS7 ends on 31/12/11, which you would have been aware of from sign up. The T&C's state that you will be transferred onto Standard tariff from that date. How can they offer you a price through to February if the tariff no longer exists?
If you switch about one week from now then it will not go through before year end anyway, so at most you would have a week or so on Standard.
Perhaps you would care to post the exact wording of what they have offered you?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I agree, why would EDF basically offer to help you and give you a discounted rate for two extra months, only for you to leave? I just cannot see them giving you a bonus for leaving.

I am not saying that the OP is lying, but maybe they have been misinformed by EDF.

BTW, here is what they told me when I switched tariff from OS7 to pp2013:

"I can confirm both fuels have switched to the pp2013, if done on line it will do this straight away.
However the prices compare in your favour as the standing charge on gas and electric is less than what you were paying before, a difference of 12.62p on electric and 2.37p gas less, the unit price is a little bit more ( 1.23p gas and 5.97p electric )."

I really don't think I am going to be drastically affected by all of this, but only time will tell.

I told them their letter said I should contact them if I wanted to switch suppliers. So I did. I advised them I will be moving supplier and should not be dis-advantaged.
He went off the phone and came back saying he has extended the online saver 7 prices until 28 February while I switch.

    Got it in writing.

Thank you. For our benefit, please could you post the exact wording of their written offer then?

    Dear Mr XX

Thank you for your recent communication.

At your requested I am writing to you to confirm your Online Saver 7 tariff will be protected for 2 months until 28 February 2012 while you switch supplier.

After 28 February 2012 your tariff will revert to standard.

    Yours

What a result! But I'm dubious as to how EDF's IT system will cope with billing you for two months on a obsolete tariff?
