gener8or - Good for you, seems like EDF have been very generous sorting that out for you. I hope it all goes well for you and you don't have any problems.

I still, just cannot see any logic from their point of view in doing this though?

What a result! But I'm dubious as to how EDF's IT system will cope with billing you for two months on a obsolete tariff?

Same way it copes with billing people on current tariffs - it doesn't! :)

But I thought you couldn't be disadvantaged when you switched. If I switched before the 31 December 2011 I would pay £30 each for both fuels. If I switched after I would pay for energy on the standard tariff for a few weeks at least (most expensive time for gas usage) -- they cant do that.

I asked them what the solution was and they came up with 2 extra months on Online Saver 7 while I switched.

That was better for me than having to switch before 31 December and have the termination charges waived.

No, you cannot be disadvantaged if you formally reject a price rise and commence a switch within 15 days-they must then bill you at the original price until you switch.
This does not apply simply when a tariff comes to and end and you have received notice of that end date.
If you switch next week your transfer will go through around 10/1/12 and no fees will be payable anyway. The ETC's apply from the switch date, not the date you start the process. But you now have every incentive to stay with OS7 until the end of February, as it will be cheaper than any new tariff. Which is why I think that the CS rep has made a major blunder in allowing you this. Keep us posted-and check your online account after New year to see what tariff is showing.

I will still be disadvantaged, it may go thru before 31 December or after either way i will pay £60 or X amount of days on the standard tariff.
They can't do this (thats what he told me after checking with his supervisor) so as I informed them I want to switch they have to keep the tariff going on the understanding I will no longer be a customer after 28/2/12, this is the EDF solution.

I just called them and double checked I have price protection on my current tariff marked on my account until 28/2/11.

'Price Protector' is an entirely different tariff.

Agreed, but I will definetly be on the standard tariff for a bit at the most expensive (coldest) time.

Are you on online Saver 7?

    No, Fixed Saver v2.
What exactly does it say against 'tariff' in your online account now?

    I wish!
    No online access
    Paper bills for me
Seperate account for elec and gas

I had my bill this week and the tariff is Online Saver 7 Dual Fuel DD on both
  • My dual fuel EDF Online Saver 7 deal comes to an end on the 31/12/11 after which I’m told I’ll be transferred onto EDF’s ‘Standard Tariff’.
My EDF contract says: ‘If you decide to change supplier before 31 December 2011, you may be charged an Early Termination Fee of £30 for electricity, and £30 for gas (£60 for Dual Fuel Customers).’

What I want to know is, if I begin switching to another supplier on Monday (28th November) will EDF penalise me merely for starting to switch or can they only penalise me if the switching process is completed prior to 31/12/11.

I was hoping the switch wouldn’t be completed before 31/12/11, so I wouldn’t pay any early termination fee , but spend as short a time as possible on EDF’s ‘Standard Tariff’.
