No, you are still in contract with EDF until the switch has completed. Normal switch time is 4-5 weeks, so starting the process 1st week of December should be OK-you will switch in the 1st half of Jan.

am bumping this thread up as it contains some useful info for those in this position of looking for a new deal to replace OS7

One question - do edf charge the ETC for changing to anoither of their own tariffs before 31/12/11?

I note that the t&c for 'Fix for 2012' says they DO charge ETC if you move off it before 31/12/12, even if to another EDF tariff.

ETC does not apply if you switch from OS7 to another EDF tariff.

  • I made it quite clear that if I rang up next week to change to PP2013 I would not want this change to happen until 31st December.
I was assured that this would be the case and all I would need to do on December 31st would be to provide meter readings.

So who wants to try this and risk it then :D

Ok I rang to test this out and found I had been miss-informed...
So I said fine im going to start to change to another supplier...
Which would go through after 31st December now anyway...

Wrongly AGAIN they tried to convince me that when the new supplier contacts them, if that is before the 31st December I will be charged the early termintion fee...:o

I still didn't convince them that this is incorrect and the only way they could charge me the fee is if my transfer is completed before the 31st December... SHAMBLES!!!

Then... they tried to convince me that I didn't need to supply a reading on the 31st Decemeber when I automatically change to standard tariff, as they would estimate my reading..

I said, I DONT THINK SO... I would give you a reading... :D

Which they will probably ignore like they did when I gave them readings last time prices increased :o

Called EDF last week to advise them I am leaving and want my online saver 7 prices held while I switch.

He has held my prices for 2 months (end of feb) while I switch to another provider. He sent me this in writing too.

So I plan to switch to another provider after 31st December.

Please note the posts above in this thread starting with this one (#42) - this appears to be confirmed in writing to the poster and looks like it will ensure they extend your current OS7 rate until the transfer, provided it is to another provider.

I expect this to be another mistake by a miss-informed customer advisor :o

Yes they will hold your prices in the event of you leaving because of a price rise...

But we all knew this price rise was going to happen as OS7 will cease to exist after 31st December so they can't really offer these prices after that date...

I would ring myself to check as I started the change supplier process on Thursday, but I hate the hold music, and the constant jibber-jabber messages...
  • Well given that gener8tor has it in writing (see post#50) it is likely to have been checked, and is a useful precedent. I woukld defintely give it a go and quote it. I got thro in under 8 mins the other day

:rotfl:This EDF we are talking about...

I hope they do honour it...
But in all honesty I doubt it :o
  • I am in this boat too.

    Thanks for the useful contributions

I am very worried. In the 12 months since I joined edf they have proven very difficult to deal with.

I have yet to receive an electricity bill from them (after 11 months) and have just received my second gas bill which is based on an estimated reading (of use from May to November). How they calculate usage at price change dates is a mystery. I have phoned asking for bills but even when the bills have appeared I have never been notified by post or email that they are ready.

I really need a supplier who bills quarterly and asks for regular meter readings. I doubt edf's ability to administer anything complicated like a changeover.

Next week I will be searching for a supplier.

    Rant over

You can supply meter readings whenever you wish, you don't have to wait to be asked.
