Car insurance successes stories

I followed all the advice on this site and, living in Liverpool, the cheapest car insurance quote I could find was still more than £600 (and that's with 4 years no claims, no accidents, nothing!)
Then a friend suggested I contact Ford insurance for a quote. She'd insured her Yaris direct with Toyota for a massive saving. Ford Insure quoted me £350, saving £250!! And I've had no problems at all with them. :j
I'd recommend everyone - check if your brand of car has it's own insurance service. They are not on comparison sites so you won't find the deals elsewhere. It's worth it!0 -
not quite under £100 but a success story all the same!
My insurance premium has always been about £500 (big car, not always lived in a nice area, previous claims, wife has the same etc.) so am generally happy with that - been with Swift for the last few years...always been the cheapest and can haggle a little and my wife is also with them. A loyal customer you might think.
anyhow wrote off my car this year (my fault apparently)..renewal came through at £1770. I could not believe it!!
So did some shopping around with comparison sites and went with Hastings for...£620, legal, windscreen, courtesy (and with 90 days Europe cover which is great as we drive to France each year!).
They don't get the best reviews but then again neither do Swift and they didn't treat me well when I had the crash (14 days courtesy car quickly became 7 days as it was 'my fault' - check your small print guys!)
So am happy with a £1150 saving, especially considering I am clearly considered a dangerous driver although I would think having a crash would make you a safer driver (it certainly has for me, it's like driving Miss Daisy now!) - have they done the stats or even some deep thinking? did they really expect me to renew at that price? Goodbye Swift, hello Hastings and I'll keep the £1150 thank you very much.0 -
Its my car insurance renewal time so I decided to shop around. After 7 years with Direct Line I was quoted £446 to renew!!! I asked about including my partner on the policy which brought it down to £353 but I still thought this was steep.
So I decided to follow Martin's tip and spent the morning getting quotes on moneysupermarket, tesco compare, confused.com and Aviva. I also tried Go Compare for good measure. Yes it was tedious having to enter the details in, but I eventually settled on a deal with Sheila's Wheels for £211. When I rang Direct Line to cancel my renewal they informed me they couldn't beat that deal.
So it definitely pays to shop around.
Thank you Martin!!!0 -
Thanks Martin! Husband's renewal for an 8 year old, low mileage, Octavia VRS Estate was £444.14 with Privilege
Comparison sites suggested MoreThan would be best option, but I took your tip and went through Top Cashback.
MoreThan then took another £11 off the quote for going (mostly) direct, and I get £75.75 cashback to boot!
We're now only paying £202.70 gross (£126.95 nett) for fully comp with courtesy car, windscreen cover and only £200 excess.
VERY happy with saving over £300 - mortgage next...0 -
Just got my insurance through confused.com. Chose Hastings Direct Premium> Fully comprehensive, windscreen and legal, breakdown inc home, roadside and europe for myself and husband under £300. And 2000 nectar points!0

I have just saved over £250 on a multibuy policy using MSE. I tried the top two comparison sites, but the best savings came from Direct Line which cannot be found on any comparison site. My suggestion would be to use moneysupermarket.com first and then go directly to Direct LIne and Aviva to get their quotes. Don't waste time on lots of comparison sites, they all do the same thing but the moneysupermarket site is the best.
Thank you Martin and team!:j:j:jInteresting Person

One thing to watch out for is this catcher -- they send you a reminder about 6wks before it expires, and you put it to one side as you cannot get a new quote 6wks before expiry of present insurance. Then you forget and they renew automatically, off your credit card and at the renew price, which s no always a fair price.
Worse, you might have found a better qte and paid out for the new insurance, only to find that the old one has also renewed automatically, and now you have TWO insurances! And to cancel one will cost you £40-50. :money:
AND, avoid giving your email details unless you really have to. Maybe one of them throwaway ones, as your inbox fills up right after the insurance renewal -- no coincidence.0 -
Quick tale for you.
Renewal time with Admiral. Under a multicar policy and paying in an annual sum.
I expected this years to come down, although what with them finally levelling the playing field for female VS male insurance (it was about time) I expected the other halfs premium to only drop a little.
Admiral sent their renewal through and it was more expensive than what we had paid for the previous year. I wasn't happy and thus much searching and comparing took place.
Eventually went through admiral online multicar using my partner as the main policy holder. Quote instantly came back for same cover, more milage, lower excesses, in the three figure bracket. This far surpassed the 4 figure number admiral had our renewal at.
Rang them up and pointed this out and sure enough the price plummeted to around the quote price. I was happy enough having saved £550 quid from renewal.
Had to ring up again confirming some details of the policy and the price had changed again. Not upwards though. It had fallen again, so I ended up saving a little over £600 compared to this years renewal.
Winner. Always ring up and haggle.0 -
Hubby is saving loads on his Insurance.
He unfortunately had a fault accident recently so expected it to go up. Was up for renewal with e-sure they wanted close to £600!! (was £400 something before) Looked around tried Nationwide they wanted close to £500. Then saw someone on here mention Ford Insurance & as just bought a Ford Fusion Plus thought would try them. Fully comp £296.15 online!
Although we are a bit confused as he also rang cos he wanted to ask about glass cover as car as privacy glass at back & heated front & rear windscreens so wanted to make sure would be like for like which said it was. However with exactly the same details to man on the phone he quoted a bit over £370! Even bearing in mind the 10% discount online then that is still well over the £296.15.
Needless to say hubby went through the online buying as luckily he kept the quote to retrieve it0 -
I managed to get a pretty good quote following the advice listed -- I tried confused.com, gocompare.com, city insurance etc and in the end got a quote for £334 from Admiral, through cityinsurance. Includes courtesy car.. I did let my wife do some searching as she loves to investigate these sorts of things online (especially holidays) - but in the end she couldn't beat it
that's for a 3.2 v6 engine incidentally.. pretty good for a Londonite like myself.
I had the usual trick from Admiral where they send through a renewal that is about 50% more expensive than last year. Makes you wonder... there must be some people that just accept it and take it on the chin? Nice one MSE.0
