I was quoted by Admiral £250 for this year car insurance. Tried about 3 comparison sites and Hastings quoted me £209. Also they have offered me half price mot voucher and because I went via Confused.com I got 2000 Nectar points. So very pleased with the result.0

Hello
Our car insurance is not under £100 (yet) but 3 great success stories!
Last year using the MSE method I managed to lower the premiums for our (then) 22 year old son (after 2 accidents) to drive his 1.2 Corsa from £936 to £588 per year. I've just done the quote for the coming year and with another year NCB and 1 of the accidents having expired, he's now down at £377 per year - wow!
Our younger son was 20 late last year and we managed to reduce his insurance for his 1.2 Fiesta from £1620 down to £840 - almost halving his costs!
My wife's Mini Clubman insurance last year came down from £540 to £240 - less than half what it was.
All policies are for Comprehensive insurance across at least 2 drivers and are usually paid annually for the best rates.
So on our 3 car insurance policies alone, MSE you have saved us more than £1500 in 13 months ... thank you so much! We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
mine was 360 last year.
this year i went through santander who offered to beat my quote by 20 percent.
so i went back to my origianal insurance and told them this.
they further reduced it.
so i went back to santander with the new quote and they beat that quote by 20 percent to.
so in the end i got fully comp, protected, all singing, dancing policy for £240. Not bad for a brand new car.credit card bill. £0.00
overdraft £0.00
Help from the state £0.000 -
I just saved around £300 haggling with Admiral! (prompted after the news article on MSE). And they were really friendly to boot
Massive thank you to American Tracy.
I've had such horrible experiences with customer service the past week, it's been lovely talking to someone who delivered impeccable service. Well done Admiral (and well done me for haggling hehe)
Please respond to mine and others' posts with courtesy and kindness- and I will not deliberately disrespect you. Down with the trolls!0 -
8 years since I've started driving and haggled every time for the best deal! For the last 3 years I have stayed with Admiral. I have changed my car 6 times and used MSE & Quidco for the best deals. Admiral always wins and I'm now driving the car I have always wanted for £360 fully comp down from £680!!
Thanks to all who post comps!

elephant.co.uk wanted £520 on renewal for my Audi A3 X reg vehicle w 11yrs NCB so quick search online and Go Compare showed £365 with Zurich! Rang elephant.co.uk up got through to their Canadian call centre best they could do was £465 and weren't bothered if I left!
But the annoying thing was they wanted me to cancel the policy even though i would have thought the correct wording would be not to renew since they automatically debit the premium on renewal unless you tell them otherwise.
So happy at saving a decent sum.
Oh and one last issue, on MoneySupermarket.com for some reason Zurich came in at £401 and not the £365 with Go Compare.
Does anyone have an explanation for this variation since I assumed the big comparison sites should be delivering similar results?0 -
Car insurance renewal came through as £280, up £10 from last year (was cheapest at the time, using comparison sites), but thought that wasn't too bad since prices are "supposed" to be going up for female drivers after the equality ruling (please correct me if I'm wrong). Still did the usual confused.com check and got 4 different companies offering around £140-170!!
Called current company first, the best they could do was £230 so went ahead with cancelling, then used Quidco to get new insurance for £140, with £30 cashback to come.
For years cheapest insurance was always £300-400, so it's dropped sharply and I have no idea why, no changes, bit confused, but really pleased with £110!0 -
Car Insurance Renewal came through for me and my husband on a joint policy (me as the named driver) for £642 with Hastings Direct. After a 5 min search on a comparison website I found a cheaper quote with Hastings Direct for £402!
I called to query it and the advisor I spoke to double checked the quote based on the reference code the comparison site gave me and when he ran it through their system it was actually for a Premier policy (more benefits and lower excess than my renewal policy with them) and the final price came out at £398!!!
No idea why or how this was possible, but no complaints from me!!! Signed up there and then and the policy docs and insurance certificate were emailed to me within 10 minutes!!0 -
Mine isn't much of a success story, but worth a think for younger drivers! I'm with Insure The Box - a telematics insurer. I paid £980 for my first year (i was 21 when i took out the policy) compared to the cheapest on comparison sites of £1,400! I was only limited to 6,000 miles for the year but you can buy additional miles if needed.
Part of my fully comp insurance is that my car and driving is tracked. At the end of each month you can earn upto 100 bonus miles, so 1,200 bonus miles each year. If you don't drive much and are a careful driver then insurers like this may work out better for you!
My renewal came through at £594 last month. After reading Martin's tips i wasn't planning on auto-renewing, but after all websites i could think of i couldn't find a new quote for under £1,000 even with 1 years no claims! I rang up my insurance and pushed for a better deal, but couldn't get one. Seeing as i had a saving of £300 after just 1 year of driving they said it was a huge saving.
Thanks for careful driving and having the telematics box fitted i could check online my miles and see what i was doing well. In the end i managed to get my renewal quote for half the price of anywhere else which is brilliant!0 -
I went with John Lewis insurance on my own car as it was a great deal with £56 cash back. Received ok!
My wife's insurance now coming up, 2.0 turbo diesel, business use.
Used all comparison sites but no where near the what John Lewis are quoting £155 less £56 cash back again hopefully? = £99 fully comp/protected/business:)The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0
