Car insurance successes stories

Thanks to this site and to an email from confused.com, I have cancelled my Saga cover asking for £685 and bought a very similar cover from the AA for £327. This includes the highest possible level of breakdown cover as well as insurance. I am disgusted that Saga has taken me for a ride for all these years, my fault for renewing automatically. I discussed the AA offer with Saga, but they would not budge. Confusingly, Saga owns the AA. Is that why they don't care? They retain my custom via the AA even at less than half the price?0

I've reinsured my kitcar for £87 this year, fully comprehensive. Anything that's non-standard needs a specialist insurer (look in the kitcar or classic car magazines) but these companies recognise that something that's been hand-built over many months (or even years) is likely to be treasured. Even if you're not the one who built it. So I can drive a 2litre convertible (it's like a Mazda MX5 but with tiny back seats) for £40 less than it cost me to insure my Citroen C3. Well worth considering if your insurance costs are high.0

My auto renew quote was £210 for 3rd party only. I went to a comparison site and got comprehensive, breakdown cover & free car hire with the same company I was using for almost £40 less.:T:T:TGONE ENGLAND0

Yay, big reduction in insurance. My auto renew price for 2 vehicles including a 21 year old named driver son on smaller vehicle was £1024. I followed the advice given in the guide and was surprised to get a better deal with Direct Line for £590. The excess is now zero on both cars instead of £150 and I opted for enhanced loan car on the 2nd larger vehicle. I guess the cost would have been even lower if I accepted voluntary excess and standard loan car on both.
Direct Line are currently offering free fitting of telemetric box (from Tracker, but it hasn't been fitted yet) on policies with under 25 drivers which gives a 20% discount without restricting hours of use etc. Obviously the way in which the car is driven can be downloaded which I don't mind0 -
Ok, maybe a bit tongue in cheek but my brow is very VERY furrowed. I think even Martin himself may be shocked (or pleased) with this one!
57 player C Max. 8,000 miles. Driveway. I'm 29, wife the same. Policy is on 5 years NCB. 1 accident in last 3 years (Nov 2011). Clean licences.
Anyway;
Compare The Market - £354 - eSure
Go Compare - £479 - Autonet (who?!?)
Confused - £375 - The AA
Renewel quote from eSure (who was last years provider) - £270
I've checked twice...and the CTM quote (used last year) was just updated with 1 years no NCB.
PLEASE explain what has just happened? I feel as if I have entered a paradox back to 2003-4 when Norwich Union couldn't be beaten for new drivers with Pass Plus!
I am in a state of shock. First time in 6 years. Amazed.0 -
I use these tips every year and always save money. One observation though, a couple of years ago I had a windscreen chip repaired. When i searched for new quotes on renewal, although my no claims discount was protected, the base premium was increased, ie I thought I did not need to mention the claim so got quotes, then realised I did and the quotes went up. changed details back again to make sure and quote went back to the initial figures. This mean that it would have been cheaper for me to pay for the repair myself and not get it done through the insurance. I Now have to pay increased premiums for five years. In future I will pay chip repairs myself. I may not have handed over cash for the repair but it was certainly not free as the adverts claim.0

Oh, and I rang up as my card details were out of date...quoted had changed to £258! :beer:0 -

Tesco car insurance renewal was £327.58 full comp, but using tips from MSE I have managed to get a cheaper quote for £258.27 with Hasting Direct, fully comp.
For once I haven't left renewal until the last minute, hence getting a fantastic deal. :j:j:j:j
A saving of £69.31 per year is A LOT of money for us. :T:T:T:T

After seeing Martin's programme on car insurance I thought you might be interested in how I made a profit of £45.08 insuring my Smart Roadster Coupe sports car last April (fully Comprehensive).
I used the Topcashback site to get my insurance with Swinton. I used a Swinton code for £75 cash back and received £42.42 in Tescos club card points. I used the clubcard points before Christmas when you could double their value with 'Tesco Boost'. I purchase £40 of clothing for £20 in points and also received 4 £10 vouchers to spend on more clothing at Tescos which is valid until May 2014.
The maths is as follows:-
£154.76 cost of insurance less £75 cashback 4242 tesco points equating to £42.42 which was doubled with Tesco Boost plus 4 £10 clothing vouchers making £45.08 profit.0 -
Lloyds quoted a quite reasonable £123.99 to renew my parents car.
Post Office are running a promotion to beat that quote on a like by like basis by £50. So year's cover for £73.99, I don't think I will be able to get close to that by doing a full comparison, but never say never.
Besides getting paid to use the comparison sites via a cashback site is an easy way to earn a couple extra quid.
Seems Confused.com isn't liking me tonight, directing me straight to Adrian Flux to get a quote, even double checking the details to make sure I haven't clicked a yes instead of a no.0
