    Not "private sale" .

The market value is defined by the FOS as the cost to replace the car at a "reputable dealer" immediately before the theft/damage that lead to the claim.
Thanks for at least addressing my query. However you stated earlier that MV was NOT "dealer asking price" and have now said is not private sale price so what is it?? A few more words would probably resolve this for me.

The cost to buy from a dealer isn't the asking price.

Insurers are aware that the asking price is inflated to allow for the inevitable haggling!

No trade in to most would mean you have the upper hand getting the price down!

I have to also share our recent deal which we are well chuffed about!

We were paying £36 and £37 (less the pence) each per month with dare I say a company through work (so thought it was a good deal). This meant we were paying £876 per year jointly for our insurance!!

Due to our debts and cash flow problems and sitting down and looking at budgeting we checked out the multi car policy deal and managed to save £449 a year!! Now we are paying £35 a year for both insurance policies - that's what I call a saving!! :money:

£242 saved last year alone on my car insurance simply by going to online comparison sites and choosing new provider. :j

2012/13 Paid £498 (the year before changing over)
2013/14 Paid £258 for the same fully comp cover with different provider
2014/15 Just been informed this year's renewal will be £191

So that's another £67 saving in the forthcoming year! :j

Thank you Badger for my badge !! xx

Well if this works I think I've got a spectacular deal...

My renewal quote came through at £204.29 (RAC). After some rummaging around on comparison sites it looked like my cheapest price was esure at £151.55

Checked on topcashback and they are offering £84 cashback!

So if it all works, that's fully comp on a 1.8 Octavia for £67.55. I'll update this post if the cashback comes through

Edit £84 now showing as payable!
  • Well done FatBelly, hope it all goes through for you. If it does I might give the cashback thing a go at my next renewal date. x

For the first time in 10 years of driving, my renewal has actually been lower than I paid the previous year. Since last year, I've turned 30 and moved house so I'm wondering if that has helped?

I can't find it cheaper anywhere using Martin's formula (well not by more than £10) but I am with Esure so to now know they offer £84 cashback - it was something like £31.50 the other day - means I will probably stay with them and just join as a new customer! :)
