When did Insurance companies started charging £25+ to change your address ?
I was working for one 17years ago and we never charged, just greatful before renewal that they told us of new address!!
1st central is asking £25 to change address- outrage!!0 -
Did my annual comparison site trawl for insurance for my Jazz and Swinton came back the cheapest at £131.50 - which I thought was quite good.
Then I saw Swinton's TV ad promising £50 cashback if the policy was still running after 6 months - so I realised the comparison site must be making something like that if they got me to sign up.
So, a call to Swinton's 0800 107 2562 number and a new quotation.
"£205.55 is the best I can do" said theyoung man. No, no, no said I. I'm looking for closer to £130 and then £50 cashback later.
A few minutes later I was offered a quote of £146.50 instead of £205.55!
So, ten minutes on the phone knocked the comparison site's £131.50 down to (after 6 months) £96.50!
Result.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Quidco are offering £45 cashback with Swinton just now so it could have been £131.50 less £45.
In fact, I've just recounted the £131.50 to £205.55 to £146.50 to £96.50 tale to my IFA (who is also an insurance broker) and he told me not to darken his doorstep if I expected anything even close to that final figure from him! :rotfl:Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Did he not tell you to look em up before spending any money with them
They aren't referred to as "not Swinton" for no reason whenever using brokers are mentioned.

I was previously paying in excess of £110 monthly for my car insurance.
My renewal came through with a quote of £62 monthly. Called up Hastings and managed to haggle them down to just under £51 monthly.
That is saving me approx £60 monthly and I am now paying less than half of what I was previously. Pretty impressive for a newbie driver.CC1: £1000 £826

I've just had my car insurance renewal through, and once again it had gone up , £417. So I called them to see if they could reduce it, which they did to £349. Still not good enough as I had been with them for 11 years, so I came on to MSE for some advice.
After reading through your thread I went directly to my current insurance company's site and got a new quote, which came out at £217. I then called them and they were happy to match this if all the criteria matched, which it did. That's a saving of £200. Amazing!
Thanks for the great advice.
p.s I also changed my occupation title from Fitness Instructor to Keep Fit Instructor which saved me £30! :j:T0 -
Admiral Multicar wanted £610 as a renewal for 2 cars. Given that I'd only paid £455 the previous year and nothing in our circumstances had changed, I tried a couple of comparison sites, and discovered I could get insurance cheaper even if the cars were insured separately.
Rang Admiral and told them I wasn't prepared to pay £600. They got it down to £530, but said there was no way to make it cheaper.
Went to Aviva Multicar and was quoted £395, and £60 Quidco, so potentially £335. Bye, Admiral
Thanks MSE - £215 (Maybe £275) saved!© Cuilean 2005. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.0 -
