  • Car insurance renewal came in at nearly £200 so did the usual comparison sites, the same company was still the cheapest, but for new customers.

Redid the quote in DH name through a cashback site and we knocked off £50, plus we got £35 cashback!

  • I used the comparison sites in the order Martin suggested and Google was the best at £198-12 for my 2004 Corsa diesel. The rest ranged from £213-12 to £253 90. Then I tried Aviva, result! £169-50. (Zurich don't cover where I live.) My present company wanted £380!! Goodbye!
  • UPDATE, Spoke to my present broker today and they said wait until I get the renewal notice and then send them proof of the quote and they should be able to match it. I'll give them the opportunity as it's local to me and I can call in to pay and collect papers. Must try the same when my home cover is due!

Elephant - renewal was £455, cheapest comparison quote was £372. Asked Elephant to see what they could do and they have come back with £336. Have gladly accepted - always nice to make a saving.
  • I've been driving for 4.5 years, 4 years NCB, 1 accident in 2014, not at fault. Drive a hatchback (not a fancy boy racer type).

Insurance renewal with LV = £800, best they could do was £750.

Added my husband to my policy (passed test in 2007, will drive the car from time to time), got it down to £700.

Went through comparison sides recommended on MSE and got it down to £450 including protecting my NCB. Went through topcashback and got £50 cashback so have halved my original quote!

    Very pleased :D

Got my renewal letter from Hastings Premier yesterday - £538, which is about £10 dearer than last year. Did a quick search on comparison sites and the exact same policy is coming up as £330. Rang up Hastings, and after some haggling they came up with £318, which includes courtesy car and breakdown cover. I'm feeling very pleased!
  • I remembered reading a tip about choosing your job title carefully. I have an admin job at the council.
On confused.com I checked the following 3 jobs:
    1. Council Worker
    2. Local Government Officer
    3. Local Authority Employee
Number 3 was the cheapest by £30 - I would never have thought to check these different "jobs" if I didn't subscribe to MSE.

We downsized our car and used all the comparison websites in Martin's guide and then haggled with Hastings Direct to bring our quote down from £300 per year to £219.13.

Can I have a badge please MSE Badger?
