  • Mine was £400 last year, i was involved in a collision which was not my fault, the other driver is trying to blame myself... No witnesses... I had 11 years no claims but Aviva tell me they only recognise 5 years and have knocked my no claims down to 3 years... Can they really do this? They now want £1100, the claim is still ongoing...
  • Comprehensive insurance from Swinton £141 ...... using their £40 cashback and Topcashback for another £40 cashback.. takes it down to £63. Not bad for a couple of minutes searching.

After days of searching and using several different comparison sites (how they varied!!), I got the best quote from "Quote me Happy" with a hopefully extra £55 cashback from Quidco.
  • I renewed my motorcycle insurance for less money than last year for better cover! I have managed to buy fully comprehensive insurance (instead of last year's TPF&T) with £0 voluntary excess on a 1200cc motorcycle for just £68 and furthermore there's £10 cashback I can claim in 60 days time.

Do they know this old machine of mine can still do 0 to 120MPH in 11 seconds? (Allegedly :) )
  • Hi rythymn doctor. do you have any kind of legal assistance attached to either your car insurance policy or house insurnace policy. could be worth pursuing. you may have to fork out to begin with but they can retrospectively claim it back for you and get your no-claims re-instated.

My daughter (17 last december) passed her test in April, first time! we were insured with the nfu. with a honda civic diesel SE CTDI 1.7. not a big car but not a "small" engine either. they did us a decent quote for adding her on to our insurance, till it came up for renewal in september. they warned us at the time that it would hike massively then. Oh boy did it!
last year, for hubby and me, in his name, we paid £314. fully comp, and we like nfu policy, its very comprehensive, great company to do business with. Renewal in sept, with daughter, £2,800! shopped around, cldn't get it much cheaper. Rang nice lady at nfu. she suggested we join the national farmers union at a cost of £150, which also entitles you to some perks and discounts in various things. This then entitled us to heavily discounted car insurance. got quote down to £1,600. we were happy! To get membership of NFU, you only need to "have a hand in some kind of farming" do a bit of veg growing, have an allotment, or help out on someones allotment. hope this helps someone, and nfu are a great company to be insured with.

Just an afterthought. Daughter has been a qualified football referee since she was 14 (horrible sometimes for me, watching my little girl in the middle of a huge pitch with these huge men squaring up to her, with parents, coaches and managers all screaming at her too, lol, she takes it all in her stride tho, cool as a cucumber, I just want to wrap her up, and deck 'em all!)

Anyway, by chance, I mentioned this to this lady, and she pointed out that we needed business use, cos she uses the car to travel all over to matches. this would have never occured to us. horrible to think she might not have been insured if there was an incident.

    Insured OH car last week

Polo 1.4 fully comp £120.08 from RAC

Topcashback doing £80.80 cashback at the moment so net cost 39.28

That was last year - couldn't get anywhere near that this year. Just paid £162.50 to Swinton through Topcashback. £40.40 from them, and £40 claimable from Swinton gives £82.10.

Halifax was in second place with a quote of £141.84 and £50 cashback giving £91.84

Post Office wasn't far off either, and would have been worth going for if I had wanted inclusive breakdown cover.

    Which insurance company is that?
  • Well happy with the MSE insurance guide, saved myself £400 today.

25 year old male, 7 years NCD, group 16 car.

Direct line renewal price - £896 including protected no claims, breakdown etc. - They wouldn't budge an inch!
Aviva (appreciate there are numerous customer service issues) - £491 with all of the above.

If the worst does happen, then I will deal with their issues there and then.

    Cheers.
