  • Hello all

this looks like just the place to get some help re. car insurance (why everytime I think or say that I hear a Meercat??? :rotfl:)

Anyway, my brother was raised in the USA, got his license there 9 years ago (he's 27), can prove no claims for all those years, now lives in the UK and had his full UK license for a year. He's never had any sort of claim or points. He only drives an old P plate Peugeot worth about £300 but can't get ins. under £500. Obviously the prob. being that he's only driven in the UK for a year. But, surely tons of people that settle in the UK as an adult have this problem so does anyone know of a company that deals with his sort of case?

Its very hard to do the comparison sites as they wont accept a 9 year no claims when he's only held his UK license 1 year!

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Blue xx

Might be best to ring the companies up to explain the situation instead. The comparison websites told me I couldn't put my Pass Plus qualification down in the same year I got my licence (or before, even though I did it straight after my test) so I had to make as though I did it 6 months into my licence!

When I do this I set up the screenscraper search using false info, i.e. I invent a character who does my job and shares my date of birth and other circumstances but has diferent contact details. I also check by doing this on the actual insurance company site.

Then when I've worked out who is going to give me the best deal overall, I clear cookies, then go through Topcashback/Quidco to buy the insurance using the real details.

Sorry, I am being a bit thick here.

The comparison websites give lower quotes, but if I go to the actual insurance company, its higher! (Around £200-£300 higher!!!)

With comparison sites, there is no cashback, whereas with the insurance company, there is, BUT with added higher cost!

We are looking to insure our grand scenic 06 plate. My husband would be the main driver , with myself as the additional plus the option to add my mother and father who are both or retirement age.

We all have at least 10 years of driving experience and myself and OH have 3 years no claims. Cant seem to find anything that is cheaper than £300 to include legal protection. Any clues who people have used who are in the same boat?

    TIA!

The actual quotes will come from the insurer's own site. The screenscrapers are just a point in the right direction. (£300 difference does sound a bit odd though)

Best quote for car insurance on the comparison sites I got was £444.56, with an insurer who paid £35 cashback via Quidco.

My current insurer (Elephant) quoted about £570 for policy renewal (quite a competive offer - only a couple of other insurers beat that), but when I asked to cancel auto-renewal they were willing to provide cover at £409.56 (best quote less £35 for the cashback) :D

Very happy with that result :j
  • does anyone know which cashback site it was that martin has quoted ultimately saved somone so much money that they only paid around £1 for their insurance - the cashback was reportedly £120 but despite scouring cashback sites i cant find one that pays out £120

Prudential used to "advertise to" pay £120, but I got stung, and like many others, the cashback never tracked, and despite raising a ticket, Prudential came back and said my insurance was cancelled when it wasn't, so quidco saw the matter as closed. Due to the high level of complaints, Prudential don't advertise on quidco anymore, and I certainly won't be buying from Prudential again.

I was getting best quotes from the comparison sites of £385+.

As a last resort I did a quote via Aviva and the cost was £296, very good so far then remembered quidco so cleared my cookies and logged back in via quidco and tracked £60 cashback when I purchased.

The only downside is it an auto renew policy so I have written a reminder on my december calendar to cancel it!
