Question
I have not been driving for over 5 years, but prior to that, I had 3 years no claims on a company car policy and before that my own insurance with 9 years NCB.
I am trying to sort out a new policy and am told my previous no claims record (12 years in total until 2006) will not entitle me to a discount off my premium.
Anyone know of a company which will allow me to use my NCB?
ydna
First, see what the lowest quote is via confused.com without any no claims (for comparison).......then I suggest contacting your last insurer from 5 years ago and asking if they would consider using your previous no claims. They, at ;est, will still have a record.''apply within''0 -
My wifes renewal quote from swiftcover was £241, last year we paid £160 !
so that's a 50% increase???
sod that, used your car insurance guide as usual, and got it down to £160 again with a different company - swinton, and a better policy as i managed to get that price on a zero voluntary excess, it was £250 with swift!
total saving was £97 and took me an hour, now off for a pint!0 -

Well done - did you sign up online for your £40 cashback?
I believe you can also get £40 back through Quidco and the two cashbacks can be used together.
Perhaps you could reply when you get back from the pub!0 -

* Do your Pass Plus (£120ish). It halved my first premium (fair enough, it was still £1300 and I didnt pass my test til I was 20 but still!) and it shows insurers that you are wanting to learn to drive after your test and not just before it if that makes sense?
* Go for a small engined car 1.0 litre (I started with a Micra)
* Be the named driver but add family as other drivers - not too many though - to get your premium down! You can be a named driver on say a parents car but there aren't as many insurers that will give you the NCB as far as I know.
* Look at cashback websites once you've found the cheapest
* Look at Martin's insurance cost cutting guide for tips etc.English by birth. GEORDIE by the grace of God.0 -
Not as spectacular as previous year's deals but I'm happy with it...
Fully comp (not protected NCD) £153.89 from RAC, with £75.75 cashback already showing from topcashback.
That's an offer that expires pretty soon if anyone's interested0 -
I renewed my insurance this morning. I did a Confused search and the best I got was £109 through Swinton but it was to pay monthly so was plus interest. I wanted to pay it in one so did another search and to pay it in one payment took it to £129. I rang them up as I was sure it couldn't be right but was told that they offer higher discounts to people who pay monthly. It would actually have cost me £2 more to pay it in one lump.
I can only assume that they find it easier to retain people who have a direct debit set up as it is more hassle to move. If I paid the lot by credit card they have to pay more commision on the payment so it could also be that I guess.
So don't assume that paying in one lump sum will be cheaper!

I'm checking for new car insurance - a friend suggested 'Adrian Flux'. I'd never heard of them and not seen them on comparison sites. They've saved me about £70 on the nearest competitor and considerably more on many others0

Over 3 cars, we saved a whopping £4600 - yes that is FOUR THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED POUNDS by following the tips...
Our 18 year old son's car renewal came in at £5.6k but dropped to £2.5k by using comparison sites and changing to Admiral - 4 stars on Defaqto.
Then we challenged Direct Line to reduce our own insurance and they dropped both our cars from £800 each to £400 each.. just by asking.
Finally, Admiral offered us a multicar policy discount if we moved our cars to them (on our next renewal date) which reduced my son's car to £2.1k and our insurance dropped to £500 for the both.
From a total bill of £7200 to a much more manageable £2600 - I'm delighted but can't believe how much money I have probably wasted over the years by accepting renewals without shopping around.
Thank you MSE!!
