£120 cashback might have been quite a while ago. I don't think any of them go above £80 now!English by birth. GEORDIE by the grace of God.0 -
When your car insurance is due to be renewed, it might pay to renew it just after it has expired, in my case just 9 hours later.
I mistakenly let my policy lapse, and had meant to renew it. The policy letter said Renewal on 29 Mar. I rang on 29th at about 0900. I was told it had expired at midnight the night before. "No problem." I said. "I haven't used the car, so can I renew it now (9 hours late)?" Yes was the reply.
The policy renewal letter stated the premium was £142.63. The renewal premium over the phone? £126... So I saved myself £16+ by NOT renewing it automatically.
And these companies wonder why we don't stick with them from year to year!
I hope someone else can get a better deal like this, even by sticking with the same company (which in my case, was SAGA.)0 -
No good if it had been stolen or torched 6 hours earlier!0

Well, I've tried this system:mad:
To explain, I'm 35 years old and have never needed to drive until 3 years ago. I passed my test, took pass plus and got a low category car 18 months ago. My premium was £1300, comp with business use.
2 months later I had an accident being hit in the rear by a drink driver when i was parked, The third party insurer paid in full (about £500 the claim was).
My next renewal, afer gaining 1 years NCD - about 40% discount, went UP to £1800 - the cheapest I could get. I tried a quote without the claim and it only came out £50 cheaper. I've also been on more advanced courses for my job but that doesn't count.
I've now tried for another quote using the methods outlined on this site. My cheapest quote came at £2190. So £100 cashback that I was offered - hoo effing ra. That'll pay for a weeks petrol......
Oh and by the way, if you REALLY think that DL and the likes are REALLY giving you X weeks insurance free, then you need you head testing.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I was quite looking forward to this challenge this year as i have got it very cheap the last few years (£51 was my lowest). But it seems that the insurance companies have caught on, as the top 10 results on all the comparison sites have really low cashback. I have the same car, no accidents etc I am 35 over 9 year no claims, so same specs. I can't get under £200.
Anyone else finding it tougher this year?
blimey what car do you have ?0 -
Hi, a lot of companies have increased the the minimum base premium in the last couple of years, so it doesn't matter if you would theoretically get it for say £160 ,if the minimum premium is £200 then thats what you will pay.
This year I managed to get a 2.2dci and 1.3 petrol for a total of £360 and then £45 cashback off Quidco. I start searching early and got this quote two months before my insurance was due.0 -
I didnt want to get a car but now it has become necessary. I cross referenced loads of comparison sites and it went from £1551 to £785 for corsa 2001, 1.4, 0 ncb, 3rd party f&f on the 10mths bonus. I can't believe its sooo expensive. I gave up on getting a vw polo because the cost was even higher. it took me all day on comparison websites & 1 hour calling up all the insurance companies and the cheapest was £785.I check ford fiesta and it seems its cheper so tomorow i am going to see if I can get it for cheaper than this. Then I will try the cashback websites which I found out on this website. thanks.0

Well I didn't manage to get my insurance for under £100 but I did manage to get a great deal!
Last year my car insurance cost me £460 and my car is a 1998 Fiesta, 1.25.
Im only 21 but have 4 years no claims and my current insurer was charging me £650 to renew it!? Why, I have no idea.
So I looked on the cashback sites and I managed to find my insurance for £380 and I was meant to get £40 cashback through simply switch but for some reason I got my cashback yesterday and it was only £25.
Still good, I may have missed something out on the form, I did still manage to save over £100 from last years price!
Only thing is they really do take a LONG time to give you the cashback, I waited 3 months for mine.
But still well worth doing!Frugal Living Challenge 2017: Living on £5,000 a year

Moderator Please don't delete my message as this offer is another loophole from Tesco. Tesco is offering recommend a friend scheme where 2 people who send out a common form with the details of car insurance on it will both get 1000 bonus clubcard points for recommending. I have made quite a few friends who exchanged the info and both /of us got bonus points. Please let me know if you are interested in becoming friends and get those 1000 extra points through Tesco car insurance.0

Question
I have not been driving for over 5 years, but prior to that, I had 3 years no claims on a company car policy and before that my own insurance with 9 years NCB.
I am trying to sort out a new policy and am told my previous no claims record (12 years in total until 2006) will not entitle me to a discount off my premium.
Anyone know of a company which will allow me to use my NCB?
