The insurers will have to make their money somehow - I imagine all these fantastic savings are made at the expense of the clueless who just accept the annual premium hike on their renewal notice :rotfl:

    Not really that funny though.
  • After crashing my car for the second time in 3 years, my insurance renewal quote this year was £2003.80!!!! I followed the step by step instructions in martins article - by using the comparison sites I got the quote down to £800ish. I then added both my retired parents on to my policy as named drivers, swiping another £150 off the cost. I then played around with my job description - I'm a general photographer, and I discovered that the difference between describing yourself as a wedding photographer or studio photographer is up to £120! (As I do both wedding and studio photography it wouldn't be lying to describe myself as either!) I then payed the premium in one payment, on a 0% credit card - final cost - £576.70 - what a result!! Oh, and it was through moneysupermarket.com, and the winning quote came from Bells Ins.
  • Well done scalwal-phtog - a great saving there :)

  • I received a renewal quote from Aviva of £420, but after following Martins advice I got my cost down to £269.71, a saving of £150.29. The irony though is my new cover is through the RAC, who have put my insurance with ..........Aviva. Result, thanks Martin.
  • Renewal quote (from last year's lowest quote) £243
Lowest quote through sceenscrapers (AA) £121
    £50 cashback through Quidco £71
    Saving £172

    Absolute bargain for fully comp

I wish I had kept a record of the savings I have made through this site over the years. It must be many thousands of pounds.

    Help please.
I am a bit confused here! Can someone advise please.

I am trying to insure a small car and have used comparethemarket for a price check. I got quite a good quote but how do I get the cashback from cashback sites. I usually use Topcashback. Do I have to go through Topcashback and put all the deatail in again or do I retrieve the quote with the reference number?

Sorry to be so think. (Hangs head in shame.:o)

    Thank you.

I'm pretty sure you can type the reference number in after clicking through from the topcashback websitre. I've done this before but sometimes the price has changed so be careful before you buy!

When I do this I set up the screenscraper search using false info, i.e. I invent a character who does my job and shares my date of birth and other circumstances but has diferent contact details. I also check by doing this on the actual insurance company site.

Then when I've worked out who is going to give me the best deal overall, I clear cookies, then go through Topcashback/Quidco to buy the insurance using the real details.
  • I'd love to see any one of you get a quote below even £1000 for a new driver with no no claims bonus at the age of 20.

I can bet no one here can do that....
