RIGHT - Car Insurance now sorted again. To start from the beginning...

My current insurer Kwik Fit couldn't insure my new car (Japanese Import), so they cancelled. After a 10-minute argument, they conceded that they wouldn't charge me a £40 cancellation charge because it was their fault.

I went on all the price comparison sites and direct sites, and found a cheapest quote with Churchill for £621 fully comp, then went through Quidco for £60 cashback.

A week later, Churchill realised they'd made a mistake and won't insure me until I reach my next birthday, so they cancelled too.

I went back to the price comparison sites and found nothing cheaper than £720 - Confused.com started at £1,010! I then went to Tesco and got quotes of £694 (or £669 Tesco Value).

I waited until a MoneySupermarket rep called me up offering to reduce quotes. She asked what my cheapest quote was; I lied and told her it was Tesco at £580.

They then put me through to a broker that "specialises in Japanese imports and young drivers", and got a quote through Ensign for £539, fully comp including personal accident and legal cover.

The best bit? My Quidco cashback for Churchill has been validated and I'm told it's "very unlikely" that they'll pull it back!!!

    Happy Badger again.

  • Was with direct line - they quoted £246.75. (If I went through to them on line it would have been only £183.75!). Got a quote from Prudential through Quidco for £184.80 but am expecting £130 cashback making my policy £54.80. Not too shabby!
  • My renewal quote was £2200

I chose to search for a quote the manual way as when I used the search engines the quotes were about £1600.

I got my insurance for £1064!!!! A saving of about £1100

I got my insurance with the RAC and this price includes Home Start Breakdown cover.

    FANTASTIC!!!
  • In September I used USwitch to get a quote to insure a vauxhall corsa in mine and my wifes name with the intention of adding my soon to be 17 daughter to the policy so she could learn to drive. I entered all the relevant details and selected the drop down choice of "Company Car Driver 5 years" As a result of all of my time completing the questionaire I was directed to a page full of offers to insure me, at various rates. I sellected the offer from Swiftcover.com of £115.00 for fully comprehensive and paid the premium completely using my Credit Card.
I am now threatened with either the a two fold increase in premium or the loss of £23.00 if I choose to cancell because Swiftcover do not accept 5 years company car driver as a reason to give discount.

On checking with them it appears that on the third page of the policy details that you recieve when you sign up for the insurance it explians that this is the case.

I want to know why I was offered insurance at this rate if they can not honour the offer as a result of information I gave at the time of my application.

I think the people running the search engine should be made aware that the option of 5 years company car driver is being abused by member companies
  • last month i nearly had a heart attack when tesco increased my renewal from £498 last year to £1000 this year for one minor accident... . So I swiftly checked in on the comparison sites to get the best deal.:T And managed to save myself £500 instantly by going with M&S. Then i found by not taking out their optional cover unchecking the relevant boxes, I saved an extra £20 and i get free key care cover with my policy..... ahhhhhh the advantages of knowing the loopholes... best thing is i dint need to come here to know this one :A

Having last week put the Cheapest Car Insurance System in the weekly e-mail I got an email from someone saying it cut his costs down to £48. So I thought it'd be interesting to see who else seared down their car insurance that way. Did you manage it for under £100?

    Martin

I used the screenscrapers as suggested and then used Topcashback cash back site as recommended by Martin for my husband's car insurance (Vauxhall vectra 1.6LS) following a renewal quote of £278 from DirectLine. I managed to get him fully comprehensive car insurance for £164 (with protected no claims) and free breakdown cover (worth at least £34) and then got £130 cash back with Prudential via Topcashback. This meant that his car insurance has cost us NOTHING!

Furthermore, my car insurance (Nissan Tino 2.2TD) is due end of October, so I have done mine with Prudential in advance via the Topcashback site (not had my renewal from Direct Line yet - NO CHANCE OFF THEM BEATING THIS). Fully comp was £194 with protected no claims, however, I got free breakdown cover (WORTH AT LEAST £34) and £130 cashback, making my fully comp policy equivalent to £30!!!!

Prudential are doing free breakdown cover online until the end of October although the cashback has been reduced from 30 Sept to £95 rather than £130 which was until 30 September. You may need to set yourself up another email account and Topcashback account if you have more than one car insurance due in your family as recurrences may be limited (why take the chance). Thank you Martin!

    Car Insurance Carver!
Seems like Prudential offer the best deal especially as they include breakdown cover. I know this might sound like a daft question but I have my car breakdown through the AA until November (only because my first premium was a 12month one and the 2nd was a 10month accelerator policy). Last year it cost me about £35. This year they say its gonna cost me £55. Obviously I won't need it as I get it for nowt through the Pru but does it go up if you have a call out?

Aaah...by the way, can I just cancel the AA one as now I have 2 covers for breakdowns from the AA AND Green Flag?! Would I get a refund or not?

My insurance this year is £392 - my last insurers best offer was £512 plus I get £130 cashback through Quidco meaning I'm saving about half as much! Yeay! :T

    Cheers

  • Just saved £144! Found two competative quotes with eCar and Alliance & Leicester, told my current insurer - Direct Line, who then brought my renewal price right down to match!
Thanks very much for this great system! :j

I believe the following is still true, deposit £1,000,000 in a bank account and you don't need insurance. This covers your liabilities to 3rd parties, you pay for your own damage. This is what, I believe, the post office and other large organisations do / did.

The £1M, easy if you follow Martins tips!

    I wouldn't say that's free at all.

If it wasn't for this then you wouldn't need £1m in the bank. You wouldn't need to touch, say, half of it for at least 5 years and so could put the money into the stock market instead of a bank.

Currently, I believe, the best bank account interest is 6.4%. Assuming an average of 10% return on the stock market (as alluded to in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stock_market_downturn_of_2002), you're loosing out on 3.6% annual growth on half a million pounds.

That means that insuring yourself this way costs £18,000.
    Ouch!
