I was just about to get a motor insurance policy from Saga via the confused.com website until I came across an article that caught my eye shown here: http://www.aquoteformotors.co.uk . Basically it tells you the benefits of using Direct line and the fact that it's not affiliated to any comparison websites. Well I tried Direct Line and it was a few quid cheaper than anything from confused.com so I'm now with them. Has anyone else found Direct Line cheaper than the comparison sites?0

I’m sure there’s a lot of parents out there wanting to help there sons and daughters learn to drive but just can’t afford the ridicules premiums some insurances quote, so here’s one that may save you a fortune.
My wife wanted to put my son on her car insurance, because he was only 17 years old and only had a provincial licence she was getting quotes up to £5000 we finally got the insurance from the Post Office for £764.00 Inc tax.0 -
claire1847 wrote: »Hi - I tried confused.com and moneysupermarket.com, as sadly I was doing this a week ago before joining this site! Anyway the prices were high because I had no claims bonus as had been on someone else's insurance for years. Ended up on Uswitch and got the cheapest quote from quotelinedirect.com, fully comp, £158.55, insured by Zurich. Feeling very silly now as all the prices above are MUCH less! But I only got the insurance last week. I read in the article that you don't need to wait until your insurance expires to hunt down a good bargain ... but I am only a week into it!! Can I do anything about it? thanks, Claire
Insurance Policies usually have a cooling off period of about 14 days. This means that you can cancel the policy to get a refund (maybe less a pro-rata amount for the amount of time the policy was in force) provided that you have not made any claims during that period. Some insurers may charge admin/cancellation fee so weigh the cost of that up against any potential saving you make by switching to an alternative policy.0 -
Im picking my car up on wednesday can any one recommend any insurer , ive got to have a cover note by then to get my car tax ,online firms cannot send cover note out in time, cheapest online £166 cheapest local by phone £230 ,north wales coast area
As "swiftcover" is entirely online, you print out your own documents from your account login as soon as you have submitted the online payment. This helps to cut down their costs and pass it on to the customer (in theory). So I don't think you can get much faster than that (virtually instant cover note)!
If swiftcover is not the most competitive premium for you, then you can always cancel during the cooling off period while you do your research. I have done exactly that in the past with them.0 -
It would give a better idea of your quotation if you state at least one of the following:-
- What insurance group (1-20) your car falls into.
- Age range (under 25, 25 -50, 50-70, over 70)
- Risk Area (low, medium, high) in your opinion
- No. of Points & Claims, NCD
- Extras (Legal Cover, Protected NCD, Courtesy Car, Breakdown Cover, Personal Accident Cover)

I have to wait until September to renew my car insurance. I signed up to Quidco but haven't used it yet. My car insurance will be my first try...
Sorry to go off the topic a bit here but...
Why wait for your car insurance renewal to use Quidco? There's house insurance, mobile phone contracts, Utilities switching (gas, electricity, home phone, broadband), magazine subscriptions not to mention all the various shopping sites.0 -
hi i'm an 18 year old lad with 1 years driving experience on my mums policy.

I today cleared out my cookies and disabled my Ad block then went onto Quidco to buy my car insurance the cash back offered by this particular insurance company was £130.00 and my insurance quote was £147.50 which means after cashback my insurance is £17.50 but as I have saved so much money I pushed the boat out and went fully comprehensive which cost me an extra tenner
Cheers
