Hi - I tried confused.com and moneysupermarket.com, as sadly I was doing this a week ago before joining this site! Anyway the prices were high because I had no claims bonus as had been on someone else's insurance for years. Ended up on Uswitch and got the cheapest quote from quotelinedirect.com, fully comp, £158.55, insured by Zurich. Feeling very silly now as all the prices above are MUCH less! But I only got the insurance last week. I read in the article that you don't need to wait until your insurance expires to hunt down a good bargain ... but I am only a week into it!! Can I do anything about it? thanks, Claire£3k back from Natwest:beer:, approx 29% saved on major debts due to Martin's tarting advice and LOTS more (inc weight loss too! ... Martin's a Marvel:j Long healthy good life, great times, and happiness :rotfl: x0

Hi, I've just had a renewal from tesco for £215, using "confused.com" I have just renewed my policy for £115 fully com. with the POST OFFICE and they will send me a £50 postal order. £65 for a years insurance, not bad. thanks.0

Ok, so i may not have reached the magical 'under £100' premium yet - But i'm so please with the policy i have just taken, bearing in mind i have only been driving 3 years and have a 1.6 16v coupe.
My renewel was £414 (fully comp) - checked confused and moneysupermarket - then went through quidco.
Lucky for me Prudential, who quoted the lowest £264 (fully comp + £200xs), pay the highest cashback of £130 on quidco (never used them before) and within 2 hours showed as tracked.
To summarise Renewel quote £414
Pru quote £264
Cashback -(£130)
Thus i've paid £134, saving a massive £280 + with the pru i have green flag recovery thrown in free!
Many thanks to Martin, and all fellow MSE's - for someone who's only been driving 3 years (although i'm 36) this i feel has been a fantastic result.0 -
Quidco is a cashback company. They give you cashback if you buy any kind of product through them. There are various cashback companies around, Quidco, Topcashback, Greasypalm, Linemypocket, Rrpoints Fivers etc... Quidco and Topcashback are usually the ones that pay the most cashback.
Last year I got £175 cashback just for renewing my car and home insurance...this year I hope to get both insurances for under £100 and bag £370 in the process.
The way they work is that you register with them, whenever you want to buy something you use their link (and only theirs) to buy whatever it is you want. You will pay the full price of it, in my case my car insurance quote came to £201. So I paid £201 with my credit card. Quidco traced my transaction and in March I will be able to claim my £120 from them once they have received it from Lloyds.
They list the different cashback amounts for the different companies. And you can get cashback for loads of different things. Opening a bank account, getting a credit card, searching for things in kelkoo or pricerunner, booking holidays, buying plants, furniture, wine, clothes... usual things.0 -
Has anyone else had problems with the post office insurance. took out car insurance with them 23rd January 2007. Had still not received £50 back by 15th March even though it states will receive in 28 days. Telephoned 15th March and again 20th, 26th. Put through to customer complaints. They eventually sent letter stating would be monitored. Today I finally received £50 (7th April !!) even though the letter and postal order is dated 27th March. 2 and half months seems a strange 28 days.0

My renewal from Direct Line £175.
Best quote using confused.com etc. was Post Office at £117 after Post Office cash back.
Finally used Quidco for the first time and with Prudential got £162 less £100 Quidco cash back but have to pay £5 of this as admin fee to Quidco so ends up at final cost of £67, providing I actually get the money from Quidco. This will be a £108 saving from my renewal quote. I was really pleased with Quidco cash back rates.Regards

The system is not working too well for me this year. Renewal with the AA is £304. Only few insurers on confused and other screenscrapers can beat it such as hastings. However once you go to the website you find they didn't include protected NCD and that the excess is higher than the AA. Once I've changed all those to match AA cover the quote goes way above £350. . Same for Tescos and Direct Line. Got all excited about good Barclays offer but then the woman on the phone said they won't beat it if you have had any claims in last three years (not on the MSE guide or barclays site until the end - this ought to be put on the MSE guide) Shame this would have really beaten it down to £200. And it was only a vandalism claim! Car back window was smashed in a pub car park by some yobs! I'm still paying for it.
Finally tried first direct and they have beaten it like for like by £30. (£274) Currently my cheapest quote and I don't think I can get it any cheaper. Any suggestions anyone please?0
