Using confused.com.. I saved over £180 off my renewal premium. The AA wanted £670 to renew... I haggled and got them down to £612. I then used the tips and used confused.com and got my insurance for £454 from Budget!!
I went back to the AA and they didn't want to know. So good bye AA helllooooo Budget!
    Thanks Martin!

Just take care if you have a claim. I was caught out in a catch 22 situation while in France. They initially would not authorise the repair, hole drilled in driver's door to get to central locking, until their engineer had inspected it. He was in England I was in France in the middle of a holiday. Eventually they did agree it was not safe to have an unlocked car and then qualified it with, but only to the cost of repairing it in England. I rang my local main dealer back home and obtained a verbal estimate. The French cost was 2/3 of the UK figure, but I only got the French cost back. Bit of a one way trade.

Naturally have not used Budget since.

Had no trouble with several personal possessions hidden in the car covered on my household insurance(Saga). They said leave it until you get back to England. In fact it was the reverse as the cheque was with me before I returned the completed claim form.

You only know how good a company is when you make a claim.
  • After listening to Martin, I got mine down to £78 (fully comp) by haggling with my current supplier, after going into confused.com. You don't have to be brave to do it...!

I'm just amazed how many of you can get insurance for less than £100. If I didn't know better I would swear that the only way to achieve that would be to lock your car in a garage and never drive it!!

I had a renewal quote from my current insurer for £352. Wow an increase of £100 on last year.

I went on Confused/Moneysupermarket & the best quotes were coming in at £100 less.

I decided to go online to my existing provider and do a re-quote on exactly the same cover & got a quote for £270 & through Quidco I should get a further £40 back making it £230 a saving of over £120. Not bad?

Low mileage helps, garaging too. Tho being over 70 doesn't. I suppose a small engine means less speed, so suppose that helps.
And a low value. Mine's a Suzuki Wagon R, ideal for carting Freecycle and auctions and allotment. Every MSE should have one.
  • Well excuuuuuuuuse me for not reading the beginning of the thread correctly. I tend to just scan and missed the 'below £100' bit ... so if I offended anyone I apologise.

Life is sometimes a bit pants but occasionally you can wear your french knickers! :D
  • Using Confused.com I got my car insurance down to £98 with £50 cash back. When the promised postal order didn't arrive within the 28 days, I phoned them up and they sent me a cheque, bringing the insurance down to £48. But two months later, the postal order arrived!
