I would also ask Tesco to substantiate the claim that you have been guilty of this in the past.

Explain that as the Manager, HE is responsible for the mistakes that occur in his shop but YOU didn't get personal - there was no need for HIM to.

Defamation of character is what you should be complaining about.

'Never been so humiliated in my life' and 'Deeply traumatised' are good phrases.

'Shopped with Tesco for years as did my parants but have never heard anything like this before'

Also DEMAND an apology from the Manager IN PERSON.

Threaten to bring this incident to the attention of the local paper who will run it as a 'Human Interest story'

Just a few hints. hope they prove useful.

Perhaps others can add to this list.

sounds like a plan.:T sorry to hear you was treated so badly:eek:
  • Thanks guys :) Sent the letter via recorded delivery.

I explained the situation briefly and included my original HO letter. I added bits like:
"I feel the slanderous comments where personal and un-neccesary and made the experience a horrible and unpleasent one" etc....

See what reply I get back.

Someone told me I could jsut go to the police and the guy would be arrested for his personal comments.

To accuse someone of being a thief is a matter to see a solicitor about, but not a criminal offence(well apart from being slander which is civil)

Are you sure about that? I thought police could intervene due to the discrimination bit as thats now included in statute?

WHat discrimination are you talking about?I dont understand.
  • Age discrimination. He wouldn't have called a woman or an older person a thief and a con artist.. I believe as I am an unshaven student he felt it easier to say it to me and feel pleased with himself!

I know this because my girlfriend was involved too, and he made sure he said "I think YOU are trying to con us" etc.. pointing at me and not involving my girlfriend.

    EDIT
re-reading that would be age and gender descrimination. Ah well

I know what you are saying-i went back with my son ,also living in uni accommodation, to currys to get a refund,my presence definitely stopped them giving him the third degree from the staff there, but they havent said anything about your age.I am sure others will quote the law on discrimination.

    Aha!!

You didn't say you were unshaven, before.

Puts a different light on it.

lol! The worst thing is I do believe things like that made a difference! If I was in a suit, all shaven and presented nicer, he would have felt less easy calling me a thief!

As I looked a little scruffy that day it helps the stereotypical image! Ah well, I could just be talking out of anger so I'll wait for this reply.

Worst thing is I can't shop at their tesco's now. It happened in front of 6 members of staff so I'm simply embarrased to go back in now! :( And also I have a point too.

Meh hope Asda sell the smae stuff.
