All kids mature at different rates. Sooner or later, OP's son will realise that the teddies aren't "cool" and he will get rid/hide them himself. Secondary school is hard in the first year, some kids will seem much more "grown-up" than others, when I started my secondary school, I was still wearing vests with Winnie the Pooh pictures on them. And yes, I did get a lot of stick for it! I couldn't believe all the girls were wearing bras and lipstick, I used to go home and play with my dolls when I was 11! (Although I did have a baby sister, so that was my excuse :D)

My son is 13 and he still plays with his Spiderman toys, and he won't be parted from his Buzz Lightyear pillowcase, because it's "nice and soft". His teddies have been relegated to the top shelf in his room but he will still take one to bed now and again, if he's ill or he's had a bad dream. OP has the right idea with the box to store (hide) them in, he will give them up when he's ready.

I wouldn't stress too much about it, it's not like he's taking them to school!
