My granddaughter is 21 and has just moved in with her boyfriend.
They both took several childhood cuddly toys with them when they moved.
I thought that was very sweet actually :).

I think I'm in the minority but am happy to accept others views ....

If I'm being 100% honest, I do think it sounds a bit woosy to have a heap of teddies and comfort blanket on the bed at his age. There's a whole "man-up" thing here about crying after his friend left cos said friend took mickey cos he's got teddies, and then reading advice to mumsy him and go the whole "in touch with your feelings" stuff.

Fair enough keep "the special one" somewhere getatable - but the others need to take a hike up a high mountain .... or the loft.

Just my thoughts and I accept they're different :-)

Would you like someone to come into your house and remove most of your possessions because thats what this amounts too.
Children have the right to their own stuff and discard it at their own rate.
Some kids get very upset having things that are very important taken away from them and you can't always tell because some don't show it outright.
It can cause problems in other ways later on.

I took my comfort blanket with me every day till I was 13, and still have it now in a drawer. I get it out wen i feel especially miserable and would be devastated if anyone threw it out!

I was also going to suggest a box to put them in when friends come round. I used to hide my blanket in my school bag, my friends never knew I had it.

  • I notice that the majority of people saying that they had or still have teddys are female, in my opinion it's different for boys, unfair though it may be. I think you've done the best thing OP under the circumstances.

  • He'll probably just grow out of them naturally over the next year or so anyway, especially if he realises his friends dont have them.
He sounds a sensitive soul your son which is nice, but it might get him bullied.
Me, personally, afetr this had happened I would be pushing him for hiding them in his room when friends come round - yeh he shouldnt have to, but whats the alternative? He just keeps getting hurt, maybe bullied and loses his friends? xxx

  • I'm 26 and still sleep with my blanket under my pillow, I'm a fully functioning member of society (honest!) and anyone who has teased me over it just got told to swivel. Aside from the occasional eye rolling from my very tolerant bf it's just accepted as one of my quirks.

Having said that, you may find your son naturally grows out of them, or just keeps a special one like my ex used to. Nothing wrong with that either. Boys will always tease each other over something, if it wasn't the teddies it'd be something else.

I'm starting to feel mean now for teasing my ex when he brought home a raggy little thing (I think it used to be a rabbit) that he'd had since he was a kid. He was 27 though! And he teased me about my one eared teddy too.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Maybe there's something odd about my boys, then!:D

As well as the 18 year old I mentioned in an earlier post, I have two others.
The middle boy is 21 and keeps his baby lambskin on his pillow.
My eldest is 24, lives away from home with his girlfriend, is a fearsome looking guitarist in a heavy metal band - he still has the fluffy blue rabbit he's had since he was a baby sitting on their bed and isn't the slightest bit embarrassed about it!:j

I think thats lovely and all very normal.
You've obviously let them develop at their own rate and they have no hang ups.
What a lovely mum you've been.
