Hi Everyone,
Just an update on MBNA. Sent them a letter after sending my 1st letter and then a telephone call asking for statements, I put in the letter :
As I have been waiting 30 days for a response and MBNA Bank Europe are obliged to reply under the Data Protection Act within 40 days, I look forward to hearing from you within the next 10 days, if not I shall seek remedy from the Information Commissioner
Came home today to a list of charges dating back to 2001 typed up all neatly for me. My letter was posted on 13/02/07 and they also returned my cheque.
My advice would be phone them and ask for the statements and then pester them by post and they'll hopefully respond.
(They owe me £2121 by the way!)

bomcullen wrote:Hi can anyone advise me on whether I can claim charges back from an MBNA credit card that has been stopped. I closed the account about a year ago but know there would be alot of charges on it !!! The only thing is I can't find any paper work with any account numbers on it .....would I still be intitled to claim and if so what details would i have to provide ?????? thank you !!!
Send them your name, relevant addresses and your date of birth and they should be able to trace you.
When you say it was stopped, do you mean it was closed by them? If so they are likely to expect any monies claimed to go towards any debt if there is any.0 -

I am about to claim for charges on my MBNA credit card, most of the charges are for £20 or £25 but the most recent charge is for £12. Should i claim for all of these charges or is the £12 charge reasonable? if the £12 charge is reasonable how will it affect the amount i claim for on the £20 & £25 charges? any advice will be gratefully received.0

Claim it all. They'll tell you that £12 is what the OFT has said is reasonable but that's not actually true. The OFT said anything more than that was excessive and they would step in. I had MBNA, Monument, and Barclaycard all send me the same letter saying that they could charge £12 cos the OFT said it was OK so I replied with direct quotes from the OFT report about how £12 would not be seen as fair by a court and they should still really be charging less. If they offer you everything except £12 from every claim, write back and tell them it isn't good enough.
I mean, that's what I've done, anyway. It's up to you what you do...With all of my dietary restrictions, I'm left with lipstick and water0 -
I have just called MBNA to try and find my acount number as I closed my account a year ago. Spoke to a very nice man who gave me my number and then asked why I needed it. I told him I was going to request a list of charges over the last 6 years. He told me I need to ask for a summary of fees as this will be listed for you instead of all the statements. He then went on to tell me that all the media coverage about claiming fees back was a load of rubbish and that it was unlikely that anyone would get money back !!! I told him to take a look at the sucess stories on this site...... with that he said goodbye and put the phone down !!!!!!!! I shall be printing off my letter now and sending it off. Do I need to send a 10.00 cheque off to them ....can anyone advise me or let me know if they have had a similar response !!!!0

Yes ,sent the £10 cheque to them . I wrote on the back of the cheque my name , account numbers and what the cheque is for . Sent the letter and cheque by recorded mail so the cannot deny recieving it .
They seem to be sticking to the 40 day period for returning info on charges and looking at some of the messages on here they may or maynot return your cheque to you with the requested info .
Hope this helps0 -
I am about to claim off my MBNA credit card for unrasonable charges, the last amount charged was £12. Is this teasonable? should i claim for this as well? If i don't claim for the £12 charge will it give MBNA a basis for defence of the claim?0
