    Hi
This isn't quite to do with the reclaiming of charges issue being discussed but might help someone.

I was charged £12 by MBNA for a payment being one day late - due to my salary being paid in late.
I called MBNA to complain. I pointed out I'd never missed a payment before, had always paid well over the minimum payment and that the fee seemed inappropriate as it was equivalent to about 1 months interest at that time.

I was offered a £6 refund straight away which I reluctantly accepted. It was better than nothing. Even mentioning I may have to think about transferring to another card compay didn't get me any further, and would have cost me more in transfer fees anyway.

A month or two later I was in the lucky position to pay off the card fully. Just before I cleared the card I called to say that I would want my account closed. I was asked why and when I explained I was offered the other £6 back if I didn't close my account.
So I said OK, laid it on thick that it might be worth keeping "for emergencies", and sure enough got the refund.

Of course, I will never use the card again, and will close the account once they've had a chance to forget they gave me the refund :o)

I's always worth a phone call.
    good luck all

I am wanting to reclaim charges from an old Sony Credit Card I used to have. I've thrown away most of the paper work I've ever been sent from them, but do notice that they are now run by MBNA, but an older statement seems to show they were run by Royal Bank of Scotland.
When I send my initial letter asking for all my charges to date, who should I write to, or should I do a letter to both RBS and MBNA ? Would MBNA having taken over the card, take over responsibility for all their previous customers/charges ?

Did you get the answers you needed on your query? I have had dealings with Sonycard

  • HI Everybody,

sorry not been here for a while, but I have been reading with interest.

I have now completed all my complaints with MBNA which has been resolved, I have been paying through Payplan since June, 2005 with a starting balance of £4,400. This has never really changed due to late payment fees, over limit fees and extortionate interest. Their customer service was very poor and after recording a few choice conversations I sat and penned a letter of formal complaint. I received £544 in November as first payment and today I have received another letter from them closing the dispute with a further goodwill gesture of.... wait for it.... £3,100. All in all, I am satisfied with the way they handled my complaint and my advice to anyone who is not happy with any part of the way MBNA have handled things is to write and tell them. If you are in financial difficulty and have been honest and are trying to clear your debts, to be treated like a leper is just not acceptable.

This has made my weekend and on top of the fact that I now have a wonderful boyfriend who treats me like a queen 2008 looks like a good year for me!

Have a nice weekend all and keep fighting the fight!

    Hi
I'm being a pain I know but can you claim charges incurred when defaulting on payments?
When I was made redundant, I didn't make any payments and it is here that i have incurred massive charges. Same with store cards.
Also, if making a claim for credit and store cards, to which company's data protection dept do you write? GE Capital seem to be the main 'holder' or do you write to the company you had the store/credit card with?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
This is the address you write to for the last 6 years statements from GE Money Storecards. I got my statements for Dorothy Perkins & Topshop this way. I firstly received a goodwill payout of only a quarter of the Balance and then went to the Financial Leasing Assoc and now finally as they couldn't get the right offer for me the Financial Ombudsman. I'll post when I get a result. As far as I'm aware yes you can reclaim on defaulted payments. I did. Good luck!

got a letter from MBNA today about my credit card charges saying they will give me £143 out of the £352 that i was asking for which is quite standard as most have said that but ive not accepted that with the others but with MBNA the last paragraph worries me a little.
Your account is currently on a reduced payment arrangement. Late and overlimit fees, as well interest have been suppressed on your account through this courtesy arrangement, the good will payments made to your account will not effect your arrangement.
i fill like i if i take this any further they will stop my arrangements.

Looking for a bit of advice regarding an overlimit fee on my MBNA cc please.

Just before Christmas, I went £6 over my limit and MBNA charged me a £12 overlimit fee (as expected) and I was OK with this.

However, 12 days later, they applied another £12 overlimit fee onto my account. I telephoned them and they told me that they charge a £12 overlimit fee every 12 days until the overlimit is cleared.

I had already sent my payment off to them, but it didn’t reach my account until 4 days after they applied this 2nd overlimit fee (but still well within the payment due date).

I asked them to remove the 2nd overlimit fee as I felt it was unfair, but they refused, saying it was “policy”.

Should I leave it at that or should I pursue this and try to get the 2nd £12 fee removed ? If so, what would be my best course of action seeing as MBNA have already said that they won’t remove it ?

    Many thanks,
    Kevin.

Hi Kevin, I moved your post to the Reclaim Board as I feel this is more appropriate place.

If MBNA have refused to refund after an informal request, you need to start a Reclaim process if you wish to challenge this. Please see this guide:

  • hi

seems to be a new creative way of uping their charges but still staying under the oft £12 threshold of getting involved. Watch out for ending up in credit on your MBNA card as they have a charge for this too !!!!

look out for all banks doing the same should a reasonable charge be agreed with the OFT. Alliance and Leicester already caught onto the £5 a day for unauthorised over drafts.
