you cant use 18185 on talktalk lines, the company barred those numbers[

QUOTE=Heinz;39033850]Welcome to the MSE forums Kinetikat.

Obviously, you don't need a new line because you already have one - it's just that you are on Talk Talk's LLU'd service (connected to their equipment at the exchange).

Hence, although it should not be the case, others' experiences have shown that the only way to migrate your line rental to another company is to return to BT (free of charge on a 'return to donor' basis), agree to a 12 month contract with them, and then move again after 12 months (or pay breach of contract charges to BT if you really want to move within that 12 months).

I don't know what Talk Talk charges for calls to mobiles but you did, of course, have the option to use 18185's freephone gateway number to make your calls to mobiles from your Talk Talk line for 5p connection + 10p/minute weekdays or 5p connection + 6p/minute weekends.[/QUOTE]

Are you saying they have barred the number I suggested using, 0808 1 703 703?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Hi all,

thought I would shout again, there are more price increases regarding TalkTalk telephone service.

From 20th October 2010, calls to 118247, 118248 and 118020 will cost £1.49 per call, plus 50p per minute.

From 22nd October 2010, calls to 118012 will cost £1.65 per call from your talktalk home phone plus 82.5p per minute.

    From 1st November 2010
calls to 118505 will cost £2.25 per call plus £2.65 per minute from your talktalk home phone, and 118707 will be charged at 69p per call.

From 1st December 2010, the price for calling 118212 will increase to 39p per minute plus 94p per call.

On 16th December 2010 the price for calling 118777 will increase to 88p per minute plus 55p per call.

    On January 4th 2010
The fee TalkTalk apply if you don't pay your bill by Direct Debit will increase from £3.50 to £4.50 per month. The charge to receive paper billing will increase to £1.48 per month.

The rates for calling overseas mobiles on International Boost, Global Saver, Talk Global Anytime and Talk Global Evening & Weekend will be standardised: to 10p or 15p per minute above the country's landline rate.

The government is increasing VAT from 17.5‰ to 20‰ from 4th January 2011. TalkTalk fees and call charges will increase from this date to include the higher rate.

The cost of calling some 'non-geographic' numbers (e.g. starting 09xx/0843/0872) will increase.

I received a email to my private email account informing me they will not be passing on the VAT increase to the line rental. Its a shame TalkTalk could not alos let its customers know of these increases as well :(

I signed up to the 'free broadband' TalkTalk package 2 years ago, and was informed that even though it WASN'T free, freedom was coming, probably only a matter of weeks... I believe it was upwards of a year before TT actually rolled out the free BB on my exchange. Not happy about that! Then, for some reason, they switched my phone tarrif to one that encompasses international calls, even though I never make international calls, and ever since I have been getting phone bills of £40-60 per month (just call charges), because I have to call my daughter's mobile a lot (she has no landline and no money), and TT not only charge a lot for landline to mobile calls, they also have a connection charge for these calls! Now, to top it all, when I have finally come to my senses and decided to switch to Orange, I find that I can't just switch - TalkTalk put tags on the phone line so that I am having to pay £110 to the Post Office to get my BT line reconnected, which will take minimum 2 working weeks, before I can even begin the switching process! TalkTalk could not have made me more angry if they'd tried. This is flaming outrageous, and I consider £110 a cheap price to escape from this company's clutches!

    Hi Kinetikat,

you did not say which TalkTalk telephone package your on. If your on the essentials package, the cost of dialing a mobile (any network) is:

    Daytime: 12p* per minute
    Evening 7p* per minute

    * Plus a connection charge

Myself and partner moved into a new flat a few weeks ago...

Letter to head of Talk Talk below explains all - PLEASE can anyone help. They have refused to shut down the line and we are STILL getting phone calls... email was sent 16/09/10. Got an email back to say they would try to sort it out but in reality they have just left us to deal with it. It's now six weeks on and we have no internet and no home phone of our own!!!

    Dear *****

Please forgive me contacting you directly but your customer services staff have been anything but helpful and I am becoming increasingly frustrated with being cut-off and being passed from pillar to post.

I moved into my new flat on Monday past, full of excitement. I decided that I would use Sky phone and broadband in my new flat as they would also be providing my television service.

On arriving in my new flat I discovered that the previous tenant had not disconnected the line. I called 150 and discovered that the line provider is TalkTalk, who I subsequently contacted. I explained that the previous tenant had moved out and I wished to take over the line but with Sky. I was told this was impossible as I could not close a line which was not in my name. I contacted Sky who said they would install a new line but this would cost me £100 (if TalkTalk closed the line, the Sky installation would be free). I then contacted TalkTalk again who said they would close the line if I paid the outstanding £160 bill which belonged to the previous tenant, something which I interpreted as verging on blackmail! They also said it could take 90 days - 90 DAYS!!!! I have spoken with TalkTalk about ten times and am getting nowhere.

The previous male tenant, whose name the account is in, was contacted by the landlord yesterday and basically said he is leaving the bill to his girlfriend, who has also moved out. Confused yet? His girlfriend has disappeared with their son and therefore cannot be contacted. He has been told by the landlord that she has moved out but has called the landline number over and over. We cannot answer the phone as if we do, he may think a new male has set up a happy home with his ex-girlfriend and child. He is leaving disturbing messages on the answering machine. All through this TalkTalk have practically refused to help, that is unless I pay this fellows phone bill - why would I pay £160 for calls I never made!

I don't know if you'll read this and I don't know if you care but my new flat is becoming a nightmare. I don't know the landline number in my own flat as talktalk can't tell me for data protection reasons. I can't answer the phone in my flat. I can't make calls from my flat. I can't get broadband from Sky in my flat.

In short, some buffoon who used to live in my flat has done a runner and I'm being held randsom for it - I still can look forward to receiving threatening talktalk letters chasing this thiefs outstanding balance, the debt collectors and visits from the bailiffs, all for a debt that isn't mine. But I'll handle those as they come. For the moment I just want an account in my name and to enjoy my new home.

Any advice folks??? Thank you in advance!!!

Oh I do feel for you, sorry no advice to give you, as a TT customer myself I know that if there is ever a none standard situation like this, TT just dont compute! You cant join the Tt forum, as you are not a customer either!!

There was a poster in this thread I think, who was trying to cancel the line on behalf of their dead grandparent, but they were advised to get their 'dead' grandparent to join the Tt forum for help, or could do it on thier behalf, WITH the grandparents consent (ROLL EYES)

There is a very helpful advisor from the TT forum that sometimes comes on here (talktalkrepresentative, emma) perhaps she could help if she notices your post.

One thing to consider is that even if you dont make any calls, the rental will still be acrewing, but hopefully you should not be liable if the account is not in your name. Eveb if the guy says he's leaving it to his ex to pay, if its in HIS name, he's the one TT will chase for the money.

Perhaps answer the phone, if it is the ex tennant or a friend of theres, they may know where shes gone, or tell him HE needs to pay the bill if it is in his name!:T

    Hope someone helps you soon!

Yes 18185 indirect access is barred but you can use 18185 0808 FreePhone Access Number if your a Talk Talk Customer as suggested by Heinz, and if you have inclusive 01/02 minutes you should be able use their geographical access number.

    Grrrrr
    Not happy bunny.
I phoned them 4 times yesterday to try and find out what they were going to do. It seems they did a line check which showed it was a more serious fault and nothing since.
26 1/2 hrs without phone or broadband and still no sign of fixing.
A fault on the line and an engineer is apparently trying to fix it. In the mean time I am spending a fortune on my mobile, and have no idea when it will be fixed.
Funnily enough BT phoned an offered me a return package - spooky eh.
