  • Hope everyone on here had a superb Christmas Day. I managed to stuff myself full of grub and yet weigh in this morning 1lb down. Because I followed this magic secret formula: I didn't chuck a litre of wine down my throat last night and I went for a 3k run this morning. Managed the whole distance this time (unlike Christmas Eve) and it had the added bonus of being in the dark. Another example of how eBay has changed my life is that rather than keeping an eye for the local chancers and their nefarious early morning deeds, I was expertly assessing in the blink of an eye the quality of the cardboard dumped outside the majority of houses in their post-Santa blitz. There was certainly some good stuff available and I have already planned the route for when the family go for their Boxing Day walk so we can drag some back ready for the mentalness that will occur on Wednesday when at least 30 of my records are going to have to be packed up and posted - eBay is ending on a high for me, and if any of you have got old computers in your loft, check out the prices they are going for - a working Sinclair ZX80 is going for £495 - and the feller who is selling it has already sold one at that price before. I know my cousin has one and I'll likely offer him a tenner for it later, but I'm going to be scouring bootfairs and charity shops for this motherlode. Happy hunting.

I have a ZX81 somewhere which works as far as I know - but where?! And where are all the add-ons?

    Hi Mr B.

Been following your thread from day one. I read it every day. I've been roght there with you on the emotional roller coaster. The highs and the lows. And I have roared with laughter at some on your wittier posts. We are, as they say, kindred spirits.

So, (and this is hard for me to say, let alone commit it to text and publish it on internet) I am 50 next month. I have also been (happily) married 25 years in 2012. The timing is perfect and you throwing down the virtual gauntlet to lose 2 stone and gain 2 grand is very appealing. I want to take control of the family finances and my persistently rotund body shape. I lost 5 stone to get married, so I know I can do that again. The finances are a bit trickier - I am a somewhat reformed, with the occasional slip, serial shopper, who permanently lives in overdraft. Our credit cards are fairing better as I started snowballing a while back - had a few thaws, where there was no snow, so snowballs were not chucked or even made, but what the hell. I'm human and not quite perfect. I have teenage 2 kids, in further and higher education, who survive on an intraveinous drip from our bank account. And are totally worth it. But we are down to one credit card each and rarely use them. This is mainly due to their being insufficient slippage on them. But on a positive note, the balances on the other 3, that we cut up, are reducing.

Finally, although my name on here is ANewBeginning, in all honesty it doesn't quite do what it says on the tin. I'm more of 'AnotherBeginning'. Anyway what the hell, I'm up for a challenge, so let's do it. Count me in from Jan 2nd!! Gonna subscribe to the other thread now.

Happy Christmas Mr B. Looking forward to conquering this mountain with you xx
  • Dug out another bottle of red that was in the fridge (it was either that or demolish the whisky - with no mixers it would have been a messy evening). Am going to have do some serious mileage tomorrow to undo this damage. But it'll be worth it. Anyone used eBid? Went on there today but it looked so sad and lonely I couldn't stay for long. Now Mrs B has decided to step from the shadows and partake in the 2 grand challenge I'm left the problem of finding the money - so in fact my challenge is now going to be to acquire 4 grand in 4 months. Doh!

I did wonder about that Mr B when I spotted Mrs B stepping out. Good for her..... maybe you can have a competition between you both, aim for the 2 grand between you (I think it will be allowed) and see who makes the most. After all Mrs B sounds like she is all motivated by you to get going. And a whole new (well reaquired) Boden wardrobe...... what more motivation will she need to beat the socks off you?

Oh, and it is Christmas - you are allowed the wine. See it as clearing out the stocks so you are not tempted when the real work starts.

  • Funny old day today - been stricken with flu-like lethargy at times and then bouncing around Zebedee the next. Also managed to fit in a crafty bit of shed re-engineering, sorting out the remaining cardboard mountain into that which is appropriate for 12" records, 7"s and CDs. Unfortunately it was getting dark while I was doing this and I got a bit bored in the end, so the cardboard is still in a mess, just a more aestethically pleasing one. Christmas comes down tomorrow and that'll provide another chance to look in the loft for anything worth selling off especially now the missus is on the making money thing. I've got about 300 more records / CDs / tapes to sell, about 80 computer games, 2 old computers and a few consoles. Then after that it's onto the odder stuff - satellite dishes, broken recievers, ink cartridges, etc. Am also collecting a box of stuff for Mrs B to list - unwanted gifts of perfume and handbags and things like that.
4k run is on the cards for tomorrow morning - felt really p'd off this morning that I did not go. Am liking that feeling again - the hunger for the running.

Having been intentionally unhitched from PC for a few days I am really pleased to see you are back on Mr B............. didnt think you could stay away for long. :)

Not sure I can do the 2 stone 2 grand thing in that I doubt if I can reach those targets in the time set but I will be subscribing as my weight is steadily going down and I do have a shed or two to play Tetris with ( not stuffed with vinyl though ) so if you dont mind I will hitch a ride on the other thread - see you there occasionally.
