T-Mobile 50% offer due to end - Anyone been offered a new deal

I want to renew this deal but don't know how to keep the internet. I know if I ask they will just say 'yes, it's the same' but by the looks of it they will then downgrade me!0

I can tell you, I had this problem when I took up the "same" deal for my other half in Feb this year. Limited to 0.3Mbps, told me "T-Mobile don't cap speeds", tried to blame the handset etc etc, then told me the SIM was faulty and I'd have to PAY £10 for a new SIM LOL!
Bottom line is, (after many many many emails) if you want the 1.8Mbps "web n walk" speed (and still capped by T-Mobile) you must pay an extra £5 a month.
T-Mobile customer service as I have said before (and on other boards) are either incompetent or liars or both - and again, I keep bashing this drum, but a smiling helpful cheery liar is still a liar...
Be giffgaff for me come November I think, I am tired of T-Mobile's ineptness.
Really they should be made to state clearly that their "unlimited" 500mb limited internet is capped by them at 0.3Mbps - I mean honestly, what's the point of a 500mb limit, is anybody going to get anywhere near that with 0.3Mbps speeds?
The only thing that will make me stay is a reassurance IN WRITING from them that they will not drop my internet speed.0 -
It's just so frustrating that they can and will lie to you. So do they also drop the limit from 3gb to 500mb? Am I right in thinking that if they do drop my speed, I will only see '3g' (which is 300kb/s) on my android phone and not 'H' (which is 1800kb/s)?
I don't think Giffgaff allow tethering so that's no good to me0 -

No, it matters not what your phone says, it is T-Mobile that are capping the speed at their end.
Had this with my wifes handset - my SIM in, 1.8Mbps, "H" is displayed , her SIM in, 0.3Mbps, the "H" is still displayed. That "H" or "3G" (or "2G") only refers to the coverage you can get in the area you are in. Remember that the 1.8Mbps is STILL capped at that level by T-Mobile, once again at their end. HSDPA coverage is capable of a far higher speed, in fact up to 14Mbps!
I'm pretty sure T-Mobile don't "allow" tethering either, but then unless you are going at it full pelt they aren't going to notice much...0 -

I'm in Leeds and use an Orange San Francisco
I'm in Cheshire using an iPhone 3GS (showing signal as 3G)
Just done another speed test (now downstairs, so normally slower) and got:
Ping 130ms
1911 Kbps Download
241 Kbps Upload
Using Speedtest.net App.0 -
Thanks for the reply Chorlie
I think meherenow has it spot on. I just don't have the time or inclination to chase to get more speed when I have already proven the decrease in speed lays with T-Mobile and I can get a better package elsewhere hassle free.0 -
Argh, yea I can't be bothered to have that argument with them either.
So what's the better package that you can get elsewhere?0 -
Scary thing is most staff dont even know there is a cap so when you call and say there is they have no knowledge of this.... but there is.
In a single night i had normal WnW and ran a speed test and got 0.3mb/s, Called CS as I should have had WnW Plus due to having an Android phone last year with 3GB, the second this was added, another test got 1.8mb/s.
Now even more interesting is through CS i added an old booster called Mobile Broadband Max Upgrade which cost £15 and gets 10GB (no longer available) and speed tests are now getting me upwards of 5mb/s and if the sim goes in my premium dongle from 3 i unlocked i now get HSPA+ and get 9mb/s.
I used to work for the company until a few days ago so was able to get the MBB Max Upgrade on my account but anytime i spoke to CS they did not have a clue, it was reported back about speed caps but nothing was ever done i think and hardly anyone knows about them0 -
When I log-in to my account I can't see a 'webnwalk' booster as part of my 'SIM Only 15 (12 months)' plan? I also can't see an option to add it?!0

On this deal, it is allowed. 3GB data and tethering permitted. Giff Gaff do not allow it on any tariff (but they keep talking of announcing one soon)gerardflanagan wrote: »When I log-in to my account I can't see a 'webnwalk' booster as part of my 'SIM Only 15 (12 months)' plan? That's because they renamed it earlier in the year. You should still be on the same deal, just under a new name.0
