I submitted Elec reading on 22/8, eveything seems OK on that, I have received a final account from Scottish Power. The gas reading is a different matter, I submitted a reading on 31/8 (the date my supply was supposed to start) and since nothing, the account is showing no meter reading and my old Scottish Power account is in limbo. How are others doing?

  • We've not had any problems with them. I've had to pursue them re: trying to sign me up to a combined gas & electric paperless bill when all I wanted was to submit the meter readings online. That took a bit of back and forth, but I got that sorted out and I'm pleased with the service. I might add that we don't do DD, so that immediately eliminates one major source of upset ie: the magical variable monthly payment!

I think my switch to EDF is just about complete!! Like you the electric one went over quite quickly and I received my final SP bill followed a few days later by the refund cheque.

The gas switch seems to lag the electric by perhaps 8 or 9 days (confirmed by others on here). So you can compare I submitted my final gas meter reading on 8 Sep which was the date EDF said my supply would start. I then deliberately did not do anything else like looking at the meter readings, just left it to them. Lo and behold I received my final SP gas bill on Saturday 24th.

Both final bills used the final reading I gave EDF. So my switch seems to have gone as they normally do. Now got to get to grips with the EDF computer system and DD changes.

Just another thing, the DD amounts are very precise, including the pence eg electric is £36.93. Never had this with other suppliers, they have always been to a round pound.

That's it ! The reason they introduced the new system was to get exact pence Direct Debits.

It's all been worth it :rotfl:after all.

I think I probably take the victor2 approach and keep my eye on the balance and then have the "correct" payment maintained at "review", if necessary by making a payment. A couple of things I have decided on, given the scr*w-up every time a customer reading is submitted, I will not be submitting any customer readings until the systems problems are totally resolved. Not a huge problem as I know my annual consumption, something I urge others to be aware of.

Secondly, I set up an online bill payment arrangement using the details in MyAccount and tested it with a token payment. In was sent by Faster Payment and was credited acceptably promptly. Interestingly the EDF customer number does not distinguish between gas and electricity so it will be interesting to see which fuel it is credited to.

Today (or tomorrow) is the 10 working day deadline for a response to my DD "scr*w-up" complaint. No response and I will escalate that as a failure.

How did you get on with your credit, which fuel did it appear on?

I will want to put some of my refund money from SP onto my EDF account , can you talk me through the procedure.
    Thanks

That must be "new" new as I haven't experienced that yet. And I don't intend to. In 2 months I've had already had the "2 reviews" I was informed of beforehand here..

And another point I've been meaning to make, anybody else noticed their web development is so incompetent that on the MyAccount Submit meter reading page they couldn't even display dial meters with "round" dials. Instead there are elliptical dials with magical telescopic pointers.:rotfl:

The credit works "fine" using the bank account details which appear somewhere on MyAccount. As to which fuel, you having a laugh?:D

Just set up an online banking bill payment arrangement using the Edf bank details in MyAccount and quoting your Edf account number as the "reference". You may need to "defeat" your bank's online templates for EDF Energy. When I did it, either the 67* template was different bank account details or didn't exist. Just another example of Edf's p*ss poor attention to detail.

But the MyAccount details certainly work for me. test it with a token payment. I sent £1.

You raise an interesting point about the "fuel split". Nominally it is built in to the monthly payment, but I am not aware where to find the "balance split" online.

Anyway I have had my 2 reviews, wobetide any further attempt to review me before April 2012.
  • I am just in the process of looking for new supplier (currently npower). EDF came up on comparison sites as the cheapest but seeing posts on here re their IT / service problems I am having 2nd thoughts. Went on EDF site & you cannot imput KWhs to get a real quote i.e. unit price breakdown. It seems as if they want to know your yearly amount in £s so that they can adjust their figures accordingly. Anyone had similar experiences?

My gas supply (and submitted reading) came on line 9 days before you and I still haven't heard anything. One complication was a meter change not long before that, I guess I should give them a ring.

But that is *exactly* what you get on a Consumer Focus accredited comparison. I cannot speak for all comparison websites but when I switched using TheEnergyShop using my actual annual consumption, EDF correctly calculated the (initial) Direct Debit accurate to the nearest £.

The Edf "system" is/was dire but with persistance I intend to achieve my money saving objectives. It's possible but needs a degree of effort. TBH, I struggle to recommend another supplier with a better price/service balance currently. Southern Electric/Atlantic self-trumpets industry leading service but don't bother looking for them on the first few comparison pages. And do you *really* want NPower's "deferred discount?"

    It's your choice.
