Although I pay via monthly direct debit, I do like to be able to see a quarterly bill for both gas and electricity. I have been with Southern Electric for years and have always had this facility.

Do EDF have the same thing where you can monitor your quarterly usage?
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

so that's why my DD went down from £40 for £30 just after I entered a reading?

It's all part of a sophisticated random number generator EDF have created. In essence, the more readings you give them, the more random your DD becomes. ;)

Switched on the 22nd June. Electricity went live on the 20th July and gas 27th July. Switch went very smoothly, have already got refunds for electricity and gas from SP. DD set at £61 and after first bill, it is gone up to £74, do not really mind as winter is approaching. Already got first bill from EDF and am impressed.

I'm in a very similar position to you. Switched on the 24th June. Electricity went live on the 25th July and gas 2nd August. Switch went smoothly apart from the obvious glitches with bits disappearing and reappearing in My Account online and like you I have already had refunds from previous suppliers.

A meter reader from G4S turned up most unexpectedly on 9th September took both readings. Quite by accident I found my online balance had reduced and my first bill appeared in My Account on 10th September although I've not yet been advised of it's existence by EDF and it's obviously not yet arrived by post. After such a short period on supply with them my Direct Debits have unexpectedly been reviewed and a minor change downwards to the electric DD has been made (not really unexpected due to energy saving measures I have taken since signing up). Thankfully the gas DD has been left as it was.

    Minor niggles so far
    1) The My Account page online is a complete joke and never seems to get any better - one step forward quickly followed by two steps backwards. My gas contract now says they started supply on 31st July - WRONG. It has always been wrong since the start stating 24th June (the date I applied to switch). You would think if they were bothered enough to amend it at all they could at least have got it right?

    2) My electricity contract now appears to have vanished into the ether and is no longer visible on My Account at all!

    3) Despite me providing both meter readings online on the contract start dates as requested it turned out that EDF had used an estimated reading to start the gas supply - something I thought was impossible and defeats the whole object of customers providing them with a reading? It was only 4 units different from the actual reading I supplied but never the less incorrect! I just couldn't be arsed to phone them and spend hours on hold to correct something so minor!

    4) Customer services do not appear to have improved at all still with long wait times and I saw a very funny tweet yesterday where somone had finally got through after a long period on hold and the person who had answered the call had gone off to find someone who could speak English to take over the call?:D:D:D

I will be keeping a very close eye on these incompetent computer illiterate !!!!!!s from now on and would advise other customers to do the same!

There can't be much left that they don't do wrong already to keep the entertainment value up!:rotfl:

What I did notice on the bill was the lack of detail provided showing exactly how EDF had calculated a number of the elements making up the bill i.e. the formula used by them for the conversion from units to kWh for the gas, how they arrived at the direct debit discount £ figure, and similarly how they arrived at the dual fuel £ discount figure. Perhaps it's of no interest to most customers but it would be nice to see it clearly shown/explained on the bill.
  • Dear all,
Having come across this thread I wanted to share my EDF experiences with you. If you have recently attempted to contact their customer centre, you would have heard a recorded message profusely apologising for their god-awful customer service of late. EDF is undergoing massive systems upgrade, which explains the shambles to an extent. Hopefully, at some point, this upgrade will be completed and EDF customer service will be back to its shining best. However, right now I would save yourself the stress and stick with your current provider.
And by the way, EDF are not the cheapest, by far (if you’re in London at least).
  • i've been with EDF since nov last year , had no problems so far

have just received my latest bill and saw i was in credit my over £200

( have dramatically reduced my electric over past months )

i tried ringing this morning to have DD reduced and the credit repayed to the bank but gave up after 15 mins on hold as i had to go out

so i just boiled kettle ready for a session " on Hold " and BLIMEY the call was answered before the kettle had time to boil

lady said she would credit my bank and agreed to reduce direct debit so shall wait and see and i shall feed back on here

but i can only say my experience so far has been a very possitive one

    "by far?"

That's strange, or perhaps you are just over-egging your pudding.

I checked using the postcode for Buckingham Palace and the difference was just a few %. The Queen has little to fear (cost wise) by a switch to Edf, and presumably plenty staff to sort out account issues.

    One assumes.

Based on my own switch i had no problems whatsoever.
All went through sweet as a nut.
If you send meter readings as and when requested you should have no problem IMO

    For the comment below .
    I mean when transfering over.
no reading no chance as to say.

    IMO?

IME, if you do that you will be subjected to either "random" or unsubstantiated changes to your DD. Usually an increase, but some posters have reported a reduction to £1.
