I've switched to EDF -electric on 16 Aug, gas on 25 Aug with no real problem. Only thing is I expected to get the final bills from Scottish Power by now.

My joining dates were 22/8 Electricity and 31/8 Gas, I received my final electricity bill from Scottish Power today 8/9.

Switched to EDF 19/8, still no final bill from BG.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

To those who switched to EDF recently: how long did it take for the whole process? I applied on Aug 4 but, bar the confirmation through the post, have yet to hear anything from them. I am hoping to have it completed before Sep 16 when my current provider raises price. It is now seems unlikely:-(

I think it was Aug 4th when i applied to switch too(via telephone),my gas transfer completed today and electricity last week...I got a letter asking for electricity reading the day before transfer, still not had a letter about the gas,but there was a message on My Account asking me for a gas reading so i sent it today....I agree with notbritishgas I think you should register online and check progess.

I'm now advised by BG that they cannot final billl me yet, as EDF still have not supplied the closing reading 3 weeks after the switch date.
Normally I wouldn't mind, but in this case I reckon they owe me a credit of £65. Grr...

Far from positive experience so far - I wrote a similar post elsewhere in the forum before realising there was a whole thread devoted to EDF. I have switched suppliers before with no problems but have found EDF very poor and almost impossible to contact.

I switched on the July 8th and went live with Electricity on the 7th August, however their website would not accept meter readings - I tried to call them and they don't answer eventually they replied to an email after 11 days and said there was a problem with their system and they would enter them for me. Now they have contacted me via the website to say the Electricity reading doesn't look correct and will have to check with my old supplier (BG) - checked the meter again this morning and the reading provided looks fine.

My account shows that Gas went live on the 15th August, however I am still being billed by British Gas. Have tried to contact by phone and email and have not had a reply.
  • I found them a pain as well - They were almost impossible to contact!

Very different experience for me. EDF elec transfer 7th Aug, BG final bill on 8th and refund initiated by BACs on same day.
EDF gas transfer 15th Aug, final bill from BG on same day, refund by BACS 2 weeks later.
Could not really have gone smoother.
Contacted EDF by phone to increase gas DD and decrease elec DD, done immediately.

Actually, I don't know if this is positive or just strange? (dunno how they can know my annual elec usage based on just 3 months in the holiday season, atlantic only calculated once a year)

I would say it's positively harrowing.:):)

Switched on the 22nd June. Electricity went live on the 20th July and gas 27th July. Switch went very smoothly, have already got refunds for electricity and gas from SP. DD set at £61 and after first bill, it is gone up to £74, do not really mind as winter is approaching. Already got first bill from EDF and am impressed.

I like the way you put a reading in and it shows what your up-to-date balance is :)

AFAIA it only corrects your balance if a bill is raised as a result of the input of meter readings - I don't want to enter readings to test because of the well publicised problem of DDs being altered when a bill is created:rotfl:
