Woohoo.as of yesterday I am officialy a customer of EDF...electrickery has switched(with no problems realy...altho the name spelling typo is still there on my bank details...odd,cos they've spelt it properly on the letter Header,EDF contract,My Account etc.)
Must admit tho,i only got the letter yesterday (31st.),in fact i got 2 letters...1 telling me "Youve got a date with EDF" ie,electricity start date 31st Aug,and all they needed was a meter reading, thankfully the online My Account was ahead of the game and allowed me to submit a reading on 30th,2nd letter was confirming my DD of £44 as agreed..1st payment to be taken on 16/09 and then the 1st of each month as requested by me...goes on to say "as promised we will review your direct debit twice a year. They also mention that DD could be calculated on "any meter readings that have been provided to us"..with this in mind,im not planning on sending regular meter readings,I will take a monthly reading for my own record only and hopefully my DD's wont be disrupted too much.
Well touch wood...But so far so good.
PS,both letters arrived yesterday 31st...one is dated 25th Aug,the other 26th..the 25th was posted 1stclass,the 26th 2nd class..both arrived on the same day,and took the best part of a week to arrive...come on Royal Mail,your not helping EDF's case here:rotfl:Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
Week 10,total weightloss is now 13.5lbs Week 11 STSweek 14(I think)..-2, total loss now 1 stone exactly
GOT TO TARGET..1/2lb under now weigh 10st 6.5(lost 1st 3.5lbs)0 -
The meter reading that I gave on 22/8 for electricity has disappeared although a meter serial number has appeared, is this a normal part of the process?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. I have just contacted EDF to increase my DDs and they said that the meter reading process goes around the houses but the reading should appear back soon, is that other peoples exerience?
BTW I was only waiting a couple of minutes for a reply.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. I have done some systems analysis work in the past, but never came across this concept.
My experience is that the meter readings do 'goes round the houses' but many of the readings disappear not reappear at all. Or the DD's for that matter.
So the technical equivalent would be 'lost in the backyard'.0 -

The DDs set by EDF are very similar to yours, mine £61 gas, £44 elec.
This will underpay gas and overpay elec. When I phoned EDF to alter the amounts they said it doesn't matter as the total of £105 will be correct (and that is right).
Will have to keep an eye on this as I do not want them in the future to suddenly increase due to the gas being in debit.
Seems to be a different system to normal, taking the total DD rather than differentiating between fuels.
As jalexa said if you pay in a lump sum how do they know where to apportion it as the money just goes to the one account?
I've been a customer with EDF for a couple of years now & moved over to my new online account (beginning with 67) back in June.
I now notice that there is only one combined total DD being taken from my bank account & apportioned to my combined fuel use. When billed, the fuels are calculated separately & then added together. The combined DD amounts are then subtracted from this combined fuel usage total.
One other thing, I noticed that EDF did not send me a reminder to submit readings when I expected them to (mid August). I phoned them to ask them when they next need a meter reading (as the new account doesn't detail this - unlike the old account) - I was informed that I only need submit readings every 6 months now instead of every 3 months previously. News to me!Time is a concept of relativity, yet as a concept, relativity is timeless.0 -

There has never been a "need" to submit customer readings (other than a transfer opening reading on request). Only the supplier "needs" to read the meter at least once every 2 years. There is (or should be and Edf excepted) a "benefit" in a customer providing accurate reads. A customer reading in the window after a read is "requested" should generate a bill using the customer reading. In a window after a bill with an estimated reading is issued the bill should be automatically replaced with a bill using the customer reading.
Currently the "better" online systems, between bills, instantly calculate the account balance for the reading without generating a bill or recalculating the DD. The new Edf system is hardly "better".
My recent experience of Edf is that the submission of a customer reading will trigger an absurd DD recalculation for which there is no calculated basis. I have even had my electricity "reading" updated with an "estimate without an estimate marker" after a mere few weeks custom for no obvious reason.
At present it is a foolish action to provide unsolicited customer readings to Edf.
However I do not think Edf FP 2014 is a "foolish" tariff choice as it does represent good value in the marketplace. Telephone response times are improving but IME not email response times.0 -
It seems to me that EDF have no mechanism for showing you your current balance in their online system, despite what I was told via on online chat when I signed up:Me: Presumably I would have monthly DD though, so does the online view show the current balance if I have just submitted a reading, even if a bill is not due?
EDF chap: Yes, your Direct Debit would be monthly. When you submit a meter reading it would show you your current balance.
They have finally taken their first DD for the amount agreed and that shows as a credit balance for the full amount. That is despite a man reading the meters on August 8 (and both readings showing up) and me entering readings this morning.
You can't even see your previous readings online (earlier than the last one entered), so you have to refer to your last bill and calculate what your balance would be, despite what I was told. Did ask them about this via email on June 6, but they never answered, and I'm pretty sure they've had more than 10 working days to do so.:)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
