people are allowed 2 weeks away. people like quoting the rules here so there you go i have quoted one. anyway people can spend some time jobseeking while away cant they?
it may interest people to know that while on the old new deal people were allowed 10 days holiday and werent required to do jobsearch while on holiday. they were also allowed 10 days sick(holiday) were again they werent required to do jobsearch.

How can they be actively seeking work and applying for the required number of jobs - which is another condition of claiming JS, and attending interviews while they are out the UK?

They can go away, and they can go abroad too, no one is stopping them, but they cannot go abroad and expect to be paid JS at the same time, when being abroad means they are not able to fullfill the criteria for JSA.

The rules stop no one having a holiday, abroad or otherwise!

people can and do apply for jobs in other countries. other countries also have postal services so job applications to uk companies can be made while abroad.
isnt it odd that people like rules were people are penalised as a result but dont like rules were people benefit?
regarding interviews the liklihood of missing an interview is very small. most people dont get them that often. those people who do get interviews regularly will be in work before any holiday issue arises.

But they will miss their signing on day, another condition of being entitled to JSA. Neither will they be able to attend an interview.

If the OP had booked and paid for (well her BF paid for) the holiday before becoming unemployed then she should have waited untill she came back before going through the whole signing on process.

dont be so holier than thou. the rules surrounding holidays are stupid. the jobcentre never checks up or contacts you about a job when you are away. you are advocating stopping someones money just because they had a week away in greece, just because the rules say so. dont be such a......

Do stop trolling and advocating benefit fraud on here where some people are naive enough to take your advice.

People tolerate you on DT, even if they do think you're an idiot, but posting like this on here is totally irresponsible.

i agree they have messed up big style there but more people seem to have issue with them having had a week away.

not trolling at all. its not taking the holier than thou attitude like you are towards my post.
1a. the rules are stupid because someone from dover can go to northern scotland but cant go to calais.
1b. people can easily do jobsearch while abroad.
2a. i have been told by people who work in the jobcentre that they never contact people while they are away.
2b. i have been away a number of times while claiming and have never been contacted once.

what fraud am i suggesting? oh i know not telling the truth about were you are going if its abroad, big deal. they never check. i would not say such a thing if there was a liklihood of them checking. of course there isnt a 100% guarantee but people have the common sense to realise this.
  • No offence to anyone, but a rule is a rule and it doesn't matter whether you or I agree with it, the rule is that you cannot under JSA rules go abroad and claim during that period. You have to sign off and make a new claim (rapid reclaim) on your return from being abroad (and it doesn't just have to be for a holiday, there are all sorts of reasons why people go). What people do with being informed of the rule is up to them-we can only give you the information you have asked for and then its up to you to adhere to the rule or not. Simples.

I have no issue with anyone having a holiday, I am fully aware that other family members may pay for the holiday, so it is not for me to judgement about that.

However, my point is you can't go abroad for a holiday and still expect to receive JSA. You Can however go abroad whenever you like, and accept that you forfeit JSA as a consequence.

So it isn't fraud if you can't be caught? Not a definition I've come across before.
