Lied to Jobseekers

I lied to jobseekers about going on holiday to Greece. They have called me in now and really worried. I didn't paid for the holiday it was a present from my boyfriend.

I know I shouldn't have lied but I couldn't afford to sign off and then sign back on as it would have taken a few weeks.

I understand people out there think people on jobseekers don't want to work but we do.

Any advice of what will happen to me.

You will, in all likelihood, be sanctioned for the period you were away on holiday. This means you'll get no money for this period. Your boyfriend clearly has money though, so I am sure he'll be happy to help you out. After all, cash to buy food is far better than two weeks in Greece!

you'll probably get sanctioned for the period you were away. could your boyfriend not help with money if he has enough money to take you both on holiday?

What did you tell them and do you have to admit the truth? Who said you can't go on holiday?

You can, but you can't go abroad as you can't actively be seeking employment and be ready to go for an interview if one comes up (say 24 hours notice) if you're in another country.

I found this on a jobseekers faq site..........I booked a holiday last year while I was still in employment. If I go on the holiday, will I still get my jobseekers payment?
You may receive Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance for two weeks holidays (i.e. 12 days excluding Sundays) in any calendar year. These holidays may be taken abroad.
  • The holiday was booked and paid for before I started on jobseekers. I missed my sign on day and said I had an interview. I know I was stupid just don't want to get a criminal record for being on holiday for one week. Should I just be truthful and hope it will be okay.
  • So how did they find out you went abroad?? How late were you in signing on? Did you give them fake interview details?
  • Not sure if they know if I went aboard yet. I spoke to my adviser saying I couldn't sign on because I had an interview and he asked me to send the email about the interview which I did ... he said he could sign on for me ... it was not a fake interview. But because I was on holiday I phoned and cancelled the interview. But I think I said I was going to a wedding first and then changed it to an interview. Feel like I've told so many lies which is not like me. I'm so worried I;m making myself sick. Please try and not to judge me ... i've just been really stupid.
