How do you attend an interview if notified the day before and Easyjet have no seats available?
considering how rare interviews are for most people its not only going to be extremely unlucky for an interview to coincide with a short trip away but for their to not be any seat on any flight as well.

a number of people have given examples to show this is not correct unless you have a car or are just going a few miles away.

Well more fool the jobseeker for taking themselves to such a remote part of the country. You use the most extreme example where a car would surely be a must in any case!

At the end of the day you aren't guaranteed a seat on a plane at last minute and Calais isn't convenient from all holiday destinations in Europe!

    Not impossible though.

And considering how rare interviews are, surely you'd want to be available just in case?

TBH I'm gobsmacked that anyone on benefits can afford a holiday whether in UK or not- even if paid for in advance there are still incidentals, expenses etc
i guess it depends on where they are going and what they will be doing. when i go to the lakes my only costs are for food. as i self cater it is no more expensive than at home.

Rules have to be set, it seems like common sense not to put a claimant in the awkward position of being sanctioned because they were unable to attend an interview...due to there being on seats on an aeroplane.

Didn't you say sanctions could be quite lenghty?
sanctions can be lengthy. what a sanction would be in this case i dont know. if one of my short trips clashes with anything i fill in a going away form. the op really should have made a decision whether to fib about where they were going or just sign off for the week. useing an interview as an excuse was a stupid thing to do and would obviously have been checked up on. anyway i am pretty sure they would have had to sign on as soon as they could after the interview, either the same day or the next morning.

Lucky you, it isn't guaranteed though which is why the rules exist ;)
it isnt guaranteed that an interview would clash with a holiday either. infact its extremely unlikely.

If you are happy to exist on jsa then only do the minimum of what is required, most who want to work will do a lot more!
firstly as you like the rules so much you shouldnt have any issue if people have done the minimum amount. secondly it really doesnt take long to do an application. so people dont need all day everyday to get a decent amount done.

But you never know when an interview could crop up, which is why you should be available with little notice, and seeing that interviews are so rare (as you put it), chancing it all on a plane seat isn't advisable!
