I travel quite extensivly and have had no problem getting back to the uk at short notice - even on a flight last week which is peak season there were still seveal spare seats and incidently I could travel back from spain tomorrow for £97 ( two available flights but it would cost £122 to get back from inverness and there is only one train)

Lucky you, it isn't guaranteed though which is why the rules exist ;)

Which take a long time to get to the UK, depending. When I get postcards from people, they usually arrive after they are home :rotfl:
does that matter if you are making spec applications?

and how many people need 8 hours a day 7 days a week to do what the jsa agreement requires of them? for example why couldnt someone jobsearch monday to thursday. then fly to paris on friday for a long weekend and come back monday to resume jobsearching on tuesday?

If you are happy to exist on jsa then only do the minimum of what is required, most who want to work will do a lot more!

ermm one word... Internet. Thats how most ppl I know do 99.9 per cent of their jobsearch anyway.

Re read - I also said go to interviews - or can they attend interviews over the net now?

see a previous poster on this thread.who applied for jobs while on holiday.someone perhaps who really wants to work???

TBH I'm gobsmacked that anyone on benefits can afford a holiday whether in UK or not- even if paid for in advance there are still incidentals, expenses etc

What about people with working partners or that have been made redundent and recieved payouts. There's no rule that says you have to have a zero bank balance to be able to claim JSA

how would you attend it if you live in dover and are on holiday in northern scotland? surely any reasonable employer wouldnt mind delaying the interview if you explained you were going away on a trip that you had booked and paid for ages ago. if they wont do that then its a sign that maybe they are not an employer people should be wanting to work for.

Train, plane, bus, run? I don't suppose they care but there isn't a big blue sea separating the two for a start!!

Why would any employer have to meet such demands, aren't you one of the ones that state interviews are hard to come by? Surely the jobseeker should do their utmost to attend!!

I agree, my son is trying extremely hard to get a full time job, he has a job of 8 hours a week and has been trying for a few months but unfortunately there is little work where I am.

However, in his time he prints off his cv's regularly and goes out almost every day passing them around. He tries to get local work and scans the net for jobs.

He is entitled to a small amount of JS a week and doesn't claim it - so he does all this off his own bat without the JS regulations at play, which shows how much he really wants work.

He has been feeling deflated and is struggling sleeping during the night and is depressed about the situation, but, he still keeps on and on because he knows giving in is not the answer.

like I said before, those are the rules and when you claim JSA you are agreeing to those rules, don't like them, then don't claim simple as that...
yes those are the rules and if they were fair rules i would say put up with them. if they were rules that cant be got around somehow i would say put up with them. however the rule is not fair and it can be got around.

surely they should be allowed to make that decision?

Of course they can, just don't complain when the sanction comes their way!
