do you think people are jobsearching if they are on holiday in the uk? the rules of jsa require people to have done a certain amount of jobsearch during the past fortnight. it doesnt have to have been spread throughout the fortnight. if they are super fast and get it all done in one afternoon then that is ok as far as the rules are concerned. you are showing signs of not liking rules were people gain and liking rules were they lose.

I wonder whether you jobsearch at all!!

In anycase, this isn't about the jobsearch but more about being able to attend an interview at short notice....much easier to do so when in the UK.

dont be so holier than thou. the rules surrounding holidays are stupid. the jobcentre never checks up or contacts you about a job when you are away. you are advocating stopping someones money just because they had a week away in greece, just because the rules say so. dont be such a.....
in my experience they dont do that when you are NOT away. its just a case of their silly rules. as others have posted ppl do find themselves unemployed who werent when booking..

How can they be actively seeking work and applying for the required number of jobs - which is another condition of claiming JS, and attending interviews while they are out the UK?

    !
ermm one word... Internet. Thats how most ppl I know do 99.9 per cent of their jobsearch anyway.

It is obvious that online job searches can be done where ever there is a wifi connection etc.

Presumably applications completed in previous weeks could result in you being called for an interview at short notice (lets say the day before), how exactly would you attend this interview if you are in another country?
how would you attend it if you live in dover and are on holiday in northern scotland? surely any reasonable employer wouldnt mind delaying the interview if you explained you were going away on a trip that you had booked and paid for ages ago. if they wont do that then its a sign that maybe they are not an employer people should be wanting to work for.

It can be possible, but why !!!!!!!! and pretend that anyone does that?
see a previous poster on this thread.who applied for jobs while on holiday.someone perhaps who really wants to work???

TBH I'm gobsmacked that anyone on benefits can afford a holiday whether in UK or not- even if paid for in advance there are still incidentals, expenses etc

so instead they will spend most of their time sat on their backsides bored s***less like most unemployed people do alot of the time. interviews are rare for most people and those who get them regularly are likely to be in work before any holiday issues arises.

Rules have to be set, it seems like common sense not to put a claimant in the awkward position of being sanctioned because they were unable to attend an interview...due to there being on seats on an aeroplane.

Didn't you say sanctions could be quite lenghty?

Don't be silly dear, you could jump on a train, bus, plane, or drive to get back from Scotland, bit more difficult getting back from Spain if there are no seats on a flight...
i live in the north east and it takes all day to get home when i go to the lakes. i can get the first bus of the day between 9am and 10am and i wont get home until after 5pm. certainly no earlier than 4pm.

you only have to go to an interview if you get an interview. can you explain to me how it takes longer to get to dover from calais than it does from northern scotland?

Oh so holiday destinations are limited then, wouldn't you get bored going to calais over and over?

Apart from no seats, even if there is a seat, you may be charged quite a lot of money by changing the day and time of your flight home.
surely they should be allowed to make that decision?
