Just had this back from from phone pay plus.

    Dear Mr Stewart,

    Thank you for your email.

PhonepayPlus is responsible for regulating premium rate services in the UK. These are the premium rate goods and services that you can buy by charging the cost to your phone bill and pre-pay account.

Premium rate numbers generally begin with 09, 118, 0871, 087l2 and 0873. They also include the five and six digit numbers, otherwise known as shortcodes, you can use to enter text competitions, give to charity or download content via your mobile phone.

Unfortunately as your complaint does not refer to a premium rate service, we will be unable to assist you further at this time. I can only advise that you try to resolve your complaint by contacting the company directly

If you have further questions or information about your complaint, please contact our helpline on 0800 500 212 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind Regards

    PhonepayPlus

I left the original email in so everyone can see what a joke this phone pay plus are. Apparently they have an on going complaint with a hell of alot of people and they still ignore the fact that these people can illegally take money from where ever they want. Please get in contact ASAP if this had happened to you because I need support if I'm going to take this higher. I'm not settling like everyone seems to have. This needs resolving because its wrong and should happen in a society of good citizens. Oliverst14@hotmail.com pls email if u are in same situation
I have been stung £120 over the last 6 months from KKO and MyDoo I only found out yesterday. Orange have referred me to Phone Pay Plus and I am not that happy now I have read your thread. I think more should be done about this.

I found out last night that I had been charged £4.50 at approximately weekly intervals since 9 Feb on my Orange phone bill. I immediately contacted Orange and was told the only info they had was a phone number and the name Ericsson. The phone number was unobtainable. I rang Orange again tonight and got a very helpful lady who said Orange would immediately refund these charges as I had not requested them

I think it is scandalous that this can happen. It seems like blatant theft. [text deleted by MSE Forum Team]

Thanks for the advice, these things are a real pain and must cause a lot of worry, i text STOP to 64546 and immediately got a reply back saying my subscription to KKO had been terminated by Payforit.

    Horrible conmen:(

    I hope this works
  • I have like others on here found out KKO mobile were charging me 4.95 a week for the last 3 months ! I decided to interrogate the bill when the high amount came to light when checking direct debits this month.

Vodafone were contacted and the call centre in Egypt stated that this was a premium service and nothing to do with Vodafone and could not be stopped - i was then transferred to a manager who said that he could change the mobile number for 25 pounds ( which would not solve the problem ) or cancel the contract.

I was less than impressed and by looking at these forums could see that it was a scam and that my recourse was with vodafone which if it was my bank account i would expect action from my bank - my contract was with Vodafone and no other third party.

I contacted Vodafone 10 minutes after my first call and asked for a premium rate block on the account - i was put on hold and told this could be done and that i was also to receive 15 pounds credit on my next bill. This was also confirmed by text message within seconds. The vodafone representative confirmed this would stop the kko mobile charges and that a change of mobile number would not and he did not know why this was not offered upon my first call.

So the moral here would be to persist and demand the block on premium rate services and then question monies owed. I hope that other victims of this scam are also successful in their cases.

The company that Vodafone and the other Networks are dealing with (sharing and sending your money to) is Ericsson ipx /netsize ipx.

Between them they have been involved in numerous PhonepayPlus adjudications and fines (many tens of thousands of pounds) for unauthorised billing.

These two companies appear to be responsible for handling the billing and services for KKO. They own and operate the stop shortcode 61973 that KKO use.

Until recently it was their customer contact details for the service being given on the PhonepayPlus web site.

considering you are actually owed almost £60.

If it was me I would contact them (don't mention the £15) threatening (considering their disgraceful record) to go to the press, your MP and the police if they do not send you a full refund.

I think it is scandalous that this can happen. It seems like blatant theft. KKO Mobile mentioned in the text seem to be connected with Enarpee Services Ltd whose registered office is at 141 Englishcombe lane Southdown, Bath. The directors are Paul Craig and Neil Penny who are also connected with Linear Telecoms at the same address.

Perhaps Messrs Penny and Craig will explain their business methods on this forum. In the meantime I think we have to keep on screaming and not allow people to be ripped off in this way.

Hi Apologies if this shows twice I have already tried to reply.

We are a Compliance Support Company which means we provide advice for Companies on how to comply with the Code of Practice provided by PPP.

However one service we also provide is a UK Cheque Refund Service to UK consumers on behalf of non-UK companies who do not have a UK Bank Account - We are not a company involved in providing any services to consumers directly whatsoever.

If it wasnt for us, consumers wouldnt get their refunds as quickly as they do - So we are trying to help but please dont accuse us of supplying anything directly - We dont and we arent.

If you research Linear Telecoms you will see it is another company but it is an Ofcom registered Network Operator.

I am sorry if you are having problems but once we have all the details we refund consumers of KKO Mobile who ask for a refund, within 7 days of us receiving that information.

We know it is an invaluable service and we are pleased to help.

So to reiterate - we are not a service provider - we only provide refund cheques on behalf of KKO Customer Services. That's all.

I wish you all the best in resolving your complaint satisfactorily.

Imagine if you can the most useless regulator ever in the history of regulation. Now double it (in your mind's eye) and you have PhonePayPlus.

They have not read your complaint at all. They have looked at the number you provided "08458341119" (which is actually the customer service number of this company concerned), seen the "0845" (which actually IS a premium rate number despite what PP+ say but it is not one often used for scams because it is too cheap) and decided that their remit does not cover your complaint.

If you re-submit your complaint using the 64546 short code, you may (or may not) get more sense from PP+ - though I wouldn't hold my breath.
  • My sister's in the same boat. She got stung by KKO Mobile/MyDoo too. £18. She's a T-Mobile customer.

On her behalf I've been struggling to get KKO Mobile to admit their premium rate texts were completely unsolicited. I say "texts" but she received just one, the 'welcome' one. KKO are, of course, insistent this is not possible. They are, however, willing to pay us off.

We're not in the habit of giving dishonest people our full names and addresses though - and that is what's required.

KKO Mobile is actually a fully owned part of a much larger company called Cellfish (yes, really, that's the name they chose!) In the US in 2011, Cellfish Media LLC made a nationwide class settlement that was undertaken by consumers who were their victims state-side.

Google Cellfish and you can find quite a lot of interesting facts.

By the way, has anyone thus far been denied a refund?
